Being a big fan of "Cole Slaw" I felt the need to pay homage in the form of a thread. What I could never understand is why 90% of all cole slaw is awful. Diners, delis, supermarkets & most other food forums just "drop the ball" when concerning this product. Slaw is a superb compliment to burgers, chicken & even steak amongst other type of eats. So....let's "RANK" Cole Slaw:
Best Cole Slaw:
Boston Market
Innovating ways to use Cole Slaw
As a substitute for sour cream in a Taco. You'll be surprised how much the slaw compliments the texture and heat of a taco.

Steels, I so agree with you. Shitty coleslaw is the worst. I usually gauge how my meal is going to go by the quality of the coleslaw. It's not even that hard to make. If you can't make coleslaw, you are a fuck up chef who should quit and eat your own shit.

Never eaten it. I get chicken and fries from this pizza place near my house a couple times a week and always throw the cole slaw away.

Hot corned beef, melted Swiss, Russian dressing, and copious amounts of cole slaw, on rye bread.
Now I'm hungry.
I like onions, but the best cole slaw does not have nay onions-or a small amount of onions. Great big hunks of onion in my cole slaw makes me gack.

This too is one of my favorites! I have not tried Boston Markets but my favorite cole slaw is from this place in Quakertown, PA called Bubba's. Their coleslaw is just so good and compliments their AMAZING ribs perfectly. Add a baked potato with tons of butter on the side and you got yourself a date. I am really hungry now. I gotta try the taco thing. Sounds nummy.

I completely forgot about the PERFECT dish to go with great slaw....RIBS! You hit the nail on the head with that one.
* A tasty ingredient most gourmet cole slaws contain is sour cream. A great example of this can be found in local "Boar's Head" brands.

Sorry AJ. KFC's coleslaw COULD be good if only they didn't mince the ingredints. I need some small strips of cabbage and carrot, not little bits. But the liquid in it is great tasting and sweet.

KFC cole slaw is my favorite.
That used to be one of my favorite things when I worked at KFC was making the Cole Slaw. I would always chop up the pieces a little bit bigger cause I hated it when it got all mushy. Nothing like DRINKING your slaw with a little bit of Original Recipe, eh? It was fun SQUEEZINJG out the kack all over the shredded cabbage and carrots becasue I always pictured like I was in a porno and and would see how far I could shoot it. Then to stick my hands in the big vat we made it in and slush it around. That felt awesome! I wonder if they still make it like that and I wonder if they wash their hands and wear large gloves when they mix it. Think about that one.

Planet Hollywood used to have ( and may still have since i haven't been in one in years ) Apple Cole Slaw.
Take the most grade-a slaw you can imagine and add crisped apple pieces. very yummy. Kind of a "Applesauce meets Slaw" taste.

Apple Cole Slaw.
I know a chef down here who puts that as a side on some of his dishes. It was the first time I heard of it, let alone tried it. Good stuff!

I love cole slaw. I even eat the little dish of cole slaw in the diner that gets passed down from plate to plate until someone gives in and eats it.
If I'm in a diner and I get some cole slaw with a burger, I'll put the cole slaw on the burger. Even better if there's steak fries with the burger. Cole slaw and steak fries on a burger - nice.

I picked this recipe up at Foodtv.com (Food Network's web site). Enjoy!
Spicy Red (Square) Peanut Cole Slaw
Recipe courtesy Wayne Harley Brachman
1 head red cabbage
1 bunch scallions
1 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon light brown sugar
2 tablespoons hot chile sesame oil
1 cup peanuts
Salt and pepper
Shred the cabbage. Slice the scallions into 1-inch strips (on the bias). In a large bowl, mix together with the mayonnaise, sugar and hot oil. Let sit overnight, refrigerated. Mix in the peanuts and season with salt and pepper before serving.
* For a "Chairman Kaga" type slaw simply substitute the peanuts with nuggets of gold.
**Fools gold will be suffice for "CZM".
