Mets invite David Cone to camp

The Mets have invited David Cone to spring training to battle for the 5th spot in the rotation.

This is pretty pointless. Give one of the kids a chance. Do you remember how Art Howe did developing young arms in Oakland?

The Mest are going to go with 4 starters to start he season, so they are only looking for a capable arm for an occasional 5th start for the first two months of the season, until one of the young arms prove themselves. This could be a good move, because Coney is a gamer, and could be a good influence on the rookies ( unless he instructs them on how to whip out and flash your junk to lady fans from the bulpen ).

The thing that worries me about Coney is the fact that he is out of baseball for a whole year, that factored with his age is troublesome. However having a vet who has been there and has been with the organization (Remember it was Doubleday who chased him out of town, with the "family look" for Mets). However if he can pull it off and makes the roster he will be a welcome addition to the Mets. Also he only needs seven victories to be considered for hall of fame selection too. He needs to try and get that magic number of 200 for consideration (unwritten rule)...
