On this snowy day the only thing keeping me warm is the fact that Pitchers & Catchers report to spring training camp on Tuesday.

I'm with you, bro. There is truly no need for the month of February to exist. I hate basketball, hockey isn't on TV nearly enough anymore, football is a distant memory, and baseball can't get here soon enough.

So is there going to be an official Yankees suck thread? Or can we just say it in every baseball related thread?

It could be argued that the Bambino is the most influential New England athlete of the century just because of what happened here after he left. Since the Babe was sold to the Yankees after the 1919 season, the world championship scorecard reads: Yankees 25, Red Sox 0.

But the Babe did enough for the Red Sox to earn a ranking of 17 on the Globe list. He was established as the finest pitcher and hitter of his time before he left Fenway. He was a member of three world champion Red Sox teams, pitched 29 consecutive scoreless innings in World Series play (a record later broken by Whitey Ford), and set the single-season home run record (29 in 1919), which would later be broken by himself, Roger Maris, and Mark McGwire

EDIT***

The Sox slumped to sixth place in 1919, but not because of Ruth. He was a one-man show, smashing a major league-record 29 homers with a slugging percentage of .657. He knocked in 114 of Boston's 565 runs and scored 103 runs. On the mound, he went 9-7 in 15 starts. He hit his 29th homer on Sept. 27, 1919 (the day Johnny Pesky was born in Portland, Ore.), then bolted the team to play in a paid exhibition game while the Sox finished their season Sept. 28.

Three months later, Frazee sold him to the Yankees for $125,000 and a $300,000 mortage on Fenway Park.

Frazee said, ''No other club could afford to give the amount the Yankees have paid for him, and I do not mind saying I think they are taking a gamble.''

Hating the Yankees is as American as mom and apple pie.

Go Sox (or whoever's playing the Yankees)

Hate the Mets too but my Braves own them so they're not a problem.

As fatty once said. The Yankees can yank these.

And here we see the REAL "curse" in Boston: stupid owners and GMs who can't build a winning team. I'd argue that the lack of a deep pitching staff has been the greatest problem Boston has had over the years. Pedro and Lowe aren't going to do it alone.

Well, we got owners who have invested a lot in this team and want to win now. The Sox also have a GM in his 20's who is rebuilding the minor league system. I'm so happy about this new ownership.

Went down to Port St. Lucie last spring training to see my beloved Mets. Met Spike Lee (who is an Expos fan?), Jay Payton, and sat 2 seats away from Steve Phillips. I took this year off in protest of last year's performance but I am sure I will go again soon.

No matter how the Mets finish, I would bet my life that the Yankees, and their $164 million payroll (actually, it will be close to $200 mill. by the end of the season after the trading deadline plus incentives) will not win the World Series.

Down with the evil empire!!!

Mets tickets on sale 2-16. Let's go Mets.

True. I'm going to remain "cautiously optimistic" but I worry about the usual scenario playing out: a strong start against the weaker teams in the early part of the season, Pedro gets hurt by mid-season, and the Yankees take control of the AL East by mid-summer.

PLEASE prove me wrong BoSox!

It makes me sick when people say the Yankees win because of money. It is very true that they have much more than any other organization and it DOES help them. But thats not why they win.

3 of the top Yanks, if not THE 3 top were all brought up through minor leagues. Bernie, Jeter, SORIANO. They were not bought by money.

What they do get with money is a pitching staff.
