Friend of mine from Connecticut claims, among other things, that they invented the hamburger, pizza, Pez, and the salad bar in his home state. I have so far only been able to verify Pez.
We went to this place Chucks Steak House in CT, which indeed alleges that it "invented the salad bar", but I will attest that it has yet to perfect it. I had hamburgers at Louis' Lunch in CT, which proudly does not allow ketchup to be served on its premises (only condiment is mustard) and was unimpressed. As far as CT pizza, perhaps Pepe's invented the clam pizza, which is truly astonishing (but I still prefer Sally's for their clam or bacon pizza.)
My dream salad bar would have:
At least 15 types of olives, including oil cured, Sicilian garlic cracked, Greek, Calamata, and Gaeta;
Pepperoncini;
Gorgonzola Cheese;
Hearts of Romaine, Iceberg; Boston Lettuce; and Mesculin mix
Anchovies;
Feta Cheese;
Pignoli Nuts;
Real Bacon Bits;
Caspian Beluga Caviar;
Chopped Hard Boiled Eggs;
Buttered Toast Triangles;
Asparagus and Kiehl's Extra Strength Urine Odor Neutralizer
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Balsamic Vinegar from Modena (at least 20 years old)
Smoked Salmon
Fennel
Prosciutto di Parma
Sopressata
4-6 count boiled shrimp
Kumamoto Oysters
Artichoke hearts; and
Oshinko (Japanese Pickled Veggies)

Pitted, I hope?
I think my ideal salad bar would
have steak, mashed potatoes,
creamed spinach...
Baby greens (lots of arugula)
Roasted red peppers (NOT in
vinegar)
Fresh buffalo mozerella
Prosciutto
Chevre
Toasted Walnuts
Sunflower seeds
Sliced anjou pears
Raspberries
And no salad bar is complete
without jello!

The Chart House out in Steamboat Springs Colorado has the best salad bar in the country.

Thanks ADF
I stay away from salad bars.. my clothes end up smelling like cigarettes and I can't stand all those lame pickup lines from the ranch dressing.
