Now who didn't have sports cards when they were a kid. You beat the shit out of them and now some are worth a lot. My personal favorites were hockey and I always loved making "finds" at the flea markets around where I grew up. Remember the hockey cards that had the scratch off pucks or even the basketball cards that were normal sized but could detatch into 3 tiny cards. BAD IDEA!
Packs of cards used to be 50 cents and even upwards to $1.25 when Upper Deck first came out and STILL they were cool. After 1993 or so when they got REALLY expensive and you only got like 6 cards for $3.00, that was a bit ridiculous. Even now with the whole grading system and the GEM MINT 10'S of late night infomercials, collecting your favorite ball players cards and stats are just not as fun as they used to be. Maybe thats why kids today are all into the Pokemon and Yu Gi Oh (sp).

Yeah, I'm guilty of being a collector. Baseball cards were my poison. I still have a bunch lying around in my room somewhere, remember when they came with that awful stick of gum?? I believe the brand was Topps that came with gum...

I was a nut. To date I have the complete set of 83 topps for baseball (HAD to open it!!) which has ripkens rookie along with Dave Stewart (we all thought he was just as good) I remember (this hurts) Having about 4 Steve Young rookies cards as well as Elways..i think it was 84 topps. I would pick my teeth with the damn things.
Then when high school started I started being smarter. I picked up about 5 of those Lindros cards before he even got drafted...for $10 a piece (know idea what its worht now) Also i started picking up certain football or baseball rookie cards..like barry sanders/smith/aikmen from the 90 score set. I got some Mattingly rookies, old winfield cards...Bo Jackson.....Oh yea and i got a kevin Mitchell Rookie card for a mere $15!!
I estimate my collection to be worth about $8 now.

remember when they came with that awful stick of gum?? Not only that but finding unopened boxes at some of the flea markets, I would open the pack sthat were sometimes 5-8 years old and would EAT the gum. Tasted awful but that was High School and we do DUMB things in High School. The Topps gum was not as NEAR as bad as the O Pee Chee gum. That was horrendous. I picked up about 5 of those Lindros cards before he even got drafted... I bought a shitload of those too in pack form. I remember getting 2 or 3 boxes and then some friends of mine I worked with at Jamesway heisted a ton out the back door and we split them amongst ourselves. Maybe we had something to do with this: http://www.lostdestinations.com/jamesway.htm <P>

I have around 1,000,000 cards from 1980-1993. The price got too high and I stopped when baseball went on strike in 1994. It just didn't seem worth it any more.

I quit baseball cards after I got my second different Ken Griffey Jr. Rookie card. Hopefully those and my other 1000 cards will make me rich one day.
Man, I'm a funny guy.

Me and stump12 would play darts with Montreal Canadian cards on the dart board. I hit Roy right in the nuts!
