Not too sure about anyone else but I cannot wait for the new season to start in a few weeks on HBO.
How did Nate do after his surgery? What is gonna happen in the new life David and Keith have together? How will Claire benefit from the guidance of Billy? Where the FUCK is Gabe? Where the FUCK did Brenda go? This season had better rule or I'll shit.
I love this show probably as much if not more than either OZ or The Sopranos. This show just seems to focus on how disfunctional life really is at times and the setting of the funeral home just makes it all the more interesting.
The Season 1 DVD box set came out on Tuesday and looks pretty cool. I just need the time to watch it. This weekend should accomplish that just fine.
Anyone else into this fine fine show?

Six Feet Under is a show I enjoy watching, but if I miss it I don't care.
I'll try to make an effort this upcoming season to watch it weekly.
p.s. This will be the official thread for the season, so don't start any others.

Another result of GREAT HBO programming. I just can't get enough of any of the "shows". As for 6ftU, when Nate thru the ring back @ Brenda, that was the best. She deserved it. Now they're making Lily Taylor a regular character, so I'd love to see where that's going with the baby and all. I'll miss OZ deeply, but I definately can not wait for the new season to start!!!!!

Yes Brenda is quite the twat but how I would have loved to be one of her little side projects last year. I love the Lily Taylor addition. She fits in so well. The only thing is, Is Nate still alive? If he is not will he "appear" like his Father does?

I guess the moral would be as cliche as it sounds, expect the unexpected. Don't bank on shit cause the first 15 minutes tonight just fucked me every which way. So Mate is still alive, I like it but it may have been a nice twist if he was dead too. It doesn't really matter anyway because there is sure to be twists and turns all through the season. No Brenda tonight which really shocked me and I really wonder what will hapen when she comes back.
I love seeing Keith and David in therapy which really adds a nice touch to the relationship but i swear if Keith is hitting him, then I will be upset. You can't go slapping David around. Damn it all.
Looking forward to an awesome season here. Like OZ it will go way too fast.

Again, a great episode this evening. You can just tell that in about two or three weeks shit will really start to fly. Keith and David will be at huge odds and STILL have feelings for one another and I also think Lisa will just blow up from the pressure from her boss and the little bits of friction with Nate. Claire will make a stand for herself and I bet Mom gets hooked on the vicadin.
Great addition of Kathy Bates. She brings so much to the show.

Why was everyone so crazy about this girls death?
She was hit by a car. As she left a club, 3 men were heckling her and following her down the block to the parking garage. She thought it was trouble and ran out into the middle of the street. Turned out it was 3 of her friends. Right after she found out a car rambled down the street and took her out. That would create too much guilt for me to bear for sure.

Tonight has been BY FAR the best episode of the series so far. If was so fucked up/funny/dramatic and just plain bizarre that with it all pulled together it was just brilliant.
I see Claire hooking up with Russell in no time. I was thinking it even BEFORE he said he was not gay. Ruth is still longing for carpet and Kathy Bates was funny as HELL tonight.
Not sure about anyone else but this also had to be the gayest episode yet. Especially with the Operatic funeral and the comment "I could eat breakfast off that ass".
I see Brenda in next weeks episode so that should be ultimo-exciting as well.

Why do I feel like Nate's life with Lisa isn't real?
I watch this and expect him to go into another one of his possible realities that he envisioned while being operated on.
Lisa is nuts. Their relationship is awful. They spend every moment trying not to piss each other off. Either this isn't real or I give him 2 more episodes to leave her.

I think that this season could explore a few episodes at a time, the possible lives that he saw while being operated on.
Everything just seems a little bit off to me, like not real, not reality. All the characters are heightened and almost overplaying their roles. I don't mean that their overacting, it's very subtle.
It just seems like maybe an episode or two from now, we might see a totally different Nate. This one is really freaking me out.

I bet Russell will off himself. I found that scene where he threw a fit in art class and Olivier's comments hilarious. It was really obvious that Russell and Olivier did something, I saw that coming from a million miles away. I really liked Claire's reaction and they way she screamed "you ARE an asshole!" The only thing I would suggest is that when he was yelling her name and she goes "don't even call me!" I would have screamed "...and keep my name the fuck out your mouth *slam door*" but thats just me.

Am I missing out or is this season just mediocre?
I guess it all depends on how much you loved the first two seasons.
I love this show, no two ways about it. What they have been doing with the character development and the ultimately character destruction is some cases I think is brilliant. Maybe I am the f-ed up one here but shit like this does happen in life. I just connect with everyone so much becasue I feel like such the Nate because it always seems things are going well and then there seems to be something taking me down an unknown road. I identify with the Claire/Russell situation becasue Claire was me in my art classes and Russell was me becasue I thought all my work was and still is shit and it does get pretty emotional at times.
So to answer your question Aggie, I think the season was great and there has been quite a lot missed if you have not seen most of it.
I also like the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup compare to the other 30 flavors. :| Go figure!

This season absolutely sucks and I'm considering canceling HBO as a protest. It was my favorite show last year. Great characters, something interesting always seemed to happen on every episode, and as dysfunctional as the family and other protagonists were, they were still believable.
This year sucks.
The show goes through long boring periods where characters are not developed enough. This is not a daily soap opera. This is a weekly prime time show I pay a lot of money to see. The whole plot line with Vanessa and Rico is boring as shit. Her mom died, she's depressed, they take dance lessons. Who gives a cares.
The show has entered into self parody. The romance between Arthur and Rose is implausible and boring. Keith and David are a medium to explore gay stereotypes. Claire lives in America's most populous state and can't find a single guy who isn't totally weird.etc. etc.
But what angers me the most is how it is so gay and medication focused.
From watching the show, it is clear that the only times the producer/creator spent without a dick in his mouth was when he had a Zoloft in it.
This is not billed as a gay show. But the story lines either revolve around gay sex or dysfunctional heterosexual sex. I'm sorry, I'm no prude, far from it, but it is way over the top in its portrayal of human sexual relations.
Rose: tries to seduce a virgin half her age.
Claire: goes from drug addicted punk murderer to sexually confused college student who fucks her one day and blows his male art teacher the next.
Brenda:A sick, perverted sexual deviant who sleeps around on her boyfriend and does a 2 on 1 with some skater kids she picks up and fucks 3 minutes after meeting them.
Nate: The only one i like cause he's pretty normal.
David and Keith:What the fuck, its not good enough that they have each other, they have to start picking up strangers for 2 on 1 butt sex? Hello? What's wrong with showing a homosexual relationship can replicate a traditional male/female relationship where monogamy is practiced? Ever heard of HIV Dave and Keith? This story line just reinforces homophobes opinions that gays are hypersexual deviants.
Billy: also a dick smoker.
Vanessa and Rico:heterosexual/traditional. But her married brother gets caught blowing the painter.
I'm sick of this show. People are not like this in real life. Maybe a show which portrayed people in traditional monogamous relationships would be boring and not good for ratings. But this is over the top.
And what's with everyone on drugs and psychotropic medication? If they aren't popping ecstasy they are taking Celexa, Paxil, Xanax, Ativan, Prozac, etc. These are all good drugs and there's nothing wrong with taking them, but again it's way over the top.
I hate this show now

Nate: The only one i like cause he's pretty normal.
Chairman, I'd have to say, if you want "normal" don't watch a TV series...
I disagree with your take on the whole thing, its a very interesting show, with some very heavy doses of emotion, humor and even some VERY "Cringe Radio" stile moments.
I love the show, I've been watching it since the first episode, and I think it has progressed and evolved very nicely.

This season absolutely sucks and I'm considering canceling HBO as a protest. It was my favorite show last year. Great characters, something interesting always seemed to happen on every episode, and as dysfunctional as the family and other protagonists were, they were still believable.

I know who you are talking about but that's not the same guy. It does look like him though. I'm still missing Nikkolai what a nutty son of a bitch! My theories on Lisa's disappearance:
1. She went for a hike and fell.
2. She was supposed to see her sister, but the sister seems like such a minor sub-plot. Nate called her a few times, but she's never called Nate at all to see if Lisa called or if they've heard any news. I'm thinking maybe the sister is in on it. Maybe Lisa did want to teach Nate a lesson. I'm thinking Lisa staged the Dr. Pepper can, the wallet, and cell phone and her sister came to pick her up.
Yeah, I know I'm a loser for still thinking about this on Wednesday!

Even the serial killers daughter with the weird pipeworks tattoos on her legs was cool. Plus Nate got to do her from behind. Go Nate!
I don't think that Lisa's dead though. I think everyone on the show is slowly writing her off, but all of a sudden she'll reappear.

I'm so depressed with how far this show fell, and how fast.
The first two seasons were some of the most brilliant TV EVER...and it's just awful. Like a soap opera where they can say, "fuck."
My biggest gripe is with what they did to David. Awkward bastard-David was MUCH more entertaining than "SUPER-GAY AND LOVIN' LIFE!!!"-David.

great point ...
hbo holds these shows back for so long that i've forgotten what has happened ...
when the sopranos came back after 18 months, they kind of skipped ahead a bit and let the plot/characters fill in the missed time ...
with six feet under, whose characters are not as vivid, they picked up the plot from the next day ... just not as interesting, i found myself getting really bored as the show progressed, and the overly macabre ending sparked a bit of interest ...
i hate, just hate, claire's boyfriend, russell: his constant whining, arty pretensions and the cheesy ponytail/facial hair was horrible ...
i don't know if it's me, but i've lost the point or narrative thread of this show ... i'm beginning to disdain each principal character ... i hope this is season brings it back a bit ...
i know alan ball created both american beauty and six feet under, (and at times when six feet under lingers/coasts/drags it really reminds me that pompous flick) ... but i don't need to see mena suvari on a sunday night ... blech

Maybe we're just jaded, but I HATED the kidnapping storyline. It was like "what the fuck is going on"? For some reason, the worst possible shit always seems to happen to the Fishers...first Nate's wife gets killed and now David is kidnapped by a coke addict, beaten and robbed. Give me a fucking break already...how much depressing shit can they possibly throw at this family before it becomes a little TOO unrealistic?

Ironically, this past week was the first full episode I've watched since giving up after the first three last season.
Sadly, I've found the show still blows a big one. It's not as silly as it was last season, but it's become unbearably soap operatic. Nate has became a walking blob of gray mush...it's clear that the writers have had no idea to with him this season and the last, and I don't think they even care. Rico's affair makes zero sense, David is still as dull as ever (Lord, he was great when he was an asshole), Claire is stuck in the same "zany, alienated teen" rut she's been in since day one and hasn't matured one iota...the only one I care about and am interested in is the mom. I say kill everyone off and make it about her, her husband and the dead dad. They're the only ones with some hope left in them.
Brenda is the worst part of the show. There's zero reason for her to be on it since she and Nate aren't together. The show's focus has always been the family (And Rico, by default, as an extended member). Thusly, it made sense for Brenda to be an important character, since she was dating one of the family members. Since she and Nate broke up, however, there's absolutely zero about her to keep the viewer invested in what she's up to. She has little to no impact on the Fischers(sp?) and the rest of the show. The only time she's signicicantly crossed over this season was when Nate showed up at her place and saw her new dude there...which is something that would have had the same impact if we hadn't seen her all season and that was the first we've seen of her since last year. Her and her relationship with this new guy effects nothing, and is just filler for the writers to kill time with. SEND HER PACKING!
And I really don't think I'm too off-base in coming down this hard on what the show has become. I just picked up the season two DVD last week, and the difference in quality between the first two seasons and then these last two is astronomically huge. I think the first two were written very close to each other, with the impression that the series might not be back, and so it was all one self-contained story...and once the show caught on and became "hot," the writers were all tapped out as to what the hell to do with these characters. I think Nate's brain tumor was supposed to be the big capper for the SERIES (Whether he lived or died or not), not just the end of a season...and from there on out, they've just been lost with what to do.

I mean maybe I am just a simpleton but I just still really enjoy the show quite a bit. I am quite hooked on it to be honest. These HBO shows anymore I just take them for what they are and try not to read too much into anything. I am still quite entertained by them and just let things unravel how they may so it does the job for me. Maybe it is because of my lack of intelligence that I don't try and read into what is REALLY going on. Who knows? I really enjoy this season so far and was quite ehsitant on commenting on it last nite cause I didn't think anyone cared.
Last night was just very disturbing. I found it interesting how after the kidnapping thing started, there was no bounce back and forth to any other storylines. It was just the David thing and that was all.
My only real complaint is that Brenda, if you are going to be very sexually active and fucking Joe with all of this passion and desire and maybe even love, you mean to tell me you can't unsheath those cans of yours and give him and the viewing audience a treat? I have never seen a woman have as much sex as she has in this series and NOT take off her top. A bit superficial of me I know but when the Warnings at the beginning of the show, I want to see more than corpse rack, man ass and penis. Please.
Oh yeah, anyone check out Entourage? I want to start a thread but just have heard no feedback on it yet to ssee if a thread is worthwhile. Last thing I want to do is develop yet another useless thread. Lord knows there are enough of them around here as it is.

I do actually wanna see "Entourage" now.
The previews all made it look like some cheesy WB-style "drama," but I've now read three reviews saying that it's actually mostly played for laughs, and it is really pretty damn funny. Plus, I found out Jeremy Piven plays the main character's agents, and for me, Piven ALWAYS equals gold.
And fluff, NOTHING on TV has ANYTHING to do with anyone's "real" intelligence, so don't beat yourself up like that. It's not called the "idiot box" for nothing...

This most recent episode is the first one written by Alan Ball this season. Unfortunately, he doesn't write next weeks.
Ball was much more hands on the first two seasons and I feel the drop in quality for the past two are a direct result of other's taking over more of the writing duties.
I compare it to West Wing (another show I like) whose past couple of seasons have been spotty at best. Say what you will about Aaron Sorkin being a prick and glory hog at time, but when he keep a tight hand over the script writing, The West Wing was one of the top network shows both in audience and critical acclaim.
Personally, with a series that runs on HBO that has typically fewer episodes than those on the networks, AND with such a long time between seasons, it's the creator's responsibility to stay more close involved/attached with what is happening to more than just the general arc of the storyline.
It seems at times that the heads of the shows take for granted that awards committees are tending to favor HBO and thus they feel they don't have to comit as fully to the show once they've established a baseline of support.
My biggest fear is that seasons 2 of Carnivale and Deadwood will not match up to the standards set by their initial showings. My fingers are crossed that if and when the decline that they follow the pattern set by Six Feet Under and Sex and the City and that it doesn't happen until about 3 or 4 seasons down the road. Given how long it is between seasons, I should be in my retirement home by then and to concerned with my Jello to even care that much.
(wow - even I am amazed at how much I tend to blather)

The most frustrating part is the downfall does NOT have to be inevitable.
"The Wire" is easily my favorite show on TV, period, and it was clearly written to be self-contained into just that first season.
Then the miracle happened and they were renewed, and the writers managed to work around that, and ended up making a season that, in my opinion, was better than the first.
My point?
WATCH "THE WIRE!"

During tonights episode did anyone catch a very VERY breif glitch of a skull or some kind of demon over the son's eulogy where he was directing some of it towards Nate (which was in his head of course). I skitzed for a minute ther and it was so fucking quick. I need to check it tomorrow and still frame.
I am still watching this and just love this show. Yes, it does get a little corny here and there but it still entertains the fuck out of me, except for last week and I like where things are headed. Shit is really going to hit the fan with Nate and Barbara and the ashes situation and don't tell me Brenda is just going to try and get with whomever will give her a kid. I still want to see some cans lady, unsheath those things as nasty as they may be just to satisfy my curiosity. George is a complete wack-a-doo and needs to calm the fuck down. Vanessa has all the right in the world to pull all the shit she is with Rico. Good to see there is a shade of some good coming back into their marriage next week. And David, you just look fucked my boy. Fucked!

Yeah, I thought it was weird it moved to Monday, too.
It looks like they have that new Lisa Kudrow show on Sunday, as well as a repeat of the six-part "Angels in America." I don't think either of these should beat out SFU but I'll watch it whatever day it's on.

I was really looking forward to what happened to George. Damn, who
would have thought he went crazy? Still, it just looks like one big
clusterfuck as far as each individual relationship goes. I can't wait
for Billy to go apeshit and I bet he tries to kill Nate or Brenda. I'm
also digging the whole child angle with David and Keith. As long as
they don't show them trying to conceive a child, I'll be fine. Good
start though. I love how I can still jump here and there after all this
time.

Nice impaling in the beginning too. Witht he surround
sound, I swear they mess with you cause I could clearly hear an engine
growing louder when they kept shoing the full view of the window.

Excellent start to the season.

that many shows I watch anyway. Speaking of which, it seems as if the

Man, I love this show! What a great beginning. I love all the parallels - mom and claire both dating nutjobs, claire and nate dating/married to sibling nutjobs, keith and david wanting a baby, brenda miscarrying. Lili taylor making an appearance at the wedding was great, too. Now I can't wait for next Monday. Hope they didn't blow their whole creative load in this first episode.

Brenda was the villian earlier on... but she moved on after Nate married Lisa, and Nate showed up at her doorstep. After that, it seemed that she was the only one working on the relationship. The way he could wake up out of a coma to see his pregnant wife and child next to him, and basically say "Sorry, its not gonna work out, I fucked a Quaker" was seriously cold.

It really is the only character that isn't some sort of self important ass whining about how awful things really are, or complaing about the opposite sex, or having an affair.

I see you point. But the producers of the show wanted a really fucked up story line. Hence, the Fishers.

This show has just been one I've always loved to hate... I was actually happy that Clair didn't die. After she crashed when it faded to white I was convinced her name and dates were going to appear. That would have been to terrible, This show is ending too sad as it is...

I'll be the first 'mo to admit it. I cried, probably for hours, not even about the show, but about people I love in my own life who could die and leave me alone. It was one of those illogical and self-serving cries you only get when touched by something artistic. I was glad to see Alan Ball penned this episode. Like Aaron Sorkin on the West Wing, his personal touch was sorely missed these last couple of years and seeing this last episode reminded me as to why I fell in love with the show in the first place. It REALLY lost track of itself but he closed up the whole mythos nicely. Seeing Claire die on her deathbed surrounded by pictures of loved ones really tugged at the ole heart strings. I was also sad to see how David and Keith went....

I was also kinda taken aback by Entourage following that finale...it was almost like a breath of fresh air...sometimes you really need that lightness to offset the gloom and doom of death, dying and real emotional truth. And while "Got Milf" wasn't exactly a tear jerker, it did evoke an unexpected emotion considering the mood I was in...laughter....you gotta love HBO...it really is a weird fucking channel....

I loved the fact that this episode actually began with a birth instead of a death. I really was scared that Brenda or the baby would die in the opening scene. I try not to let these things get to me, but I could not help getting emotional the last ten minutes either. Seeing all these characters die was something I really did expect since this last season started, but I really didn't think I'd feel that bad. I felt bad for Billy, but Brenda's death was the one that actually made me laugh. Keith's death really upset me at first, but it was fitting. I find it amusing that Clair lived to be 102 years old, I always disliked her the most. I have to go back now and watch the DVD's from the beginning.

it was a really nice, solid episode until the epiogues ... the ruth/claire scenes towards the end were powerful and touching ... they really should've ended the show with nate disappearing in the rearview mirror as clair drove away ... all the death scenes looked too wierd, they didn't have the emotional impact that i had hoped and ruth looked just insanely older than george ...

In my usual screwball nature I mentioned to my friends I was
watching it with as to how cool it would be to just see everyone die to
close out the series. When it actually began to happen I just had this
lump in my throat because not only did it play out a bit how I was
thinking (which freaked me out) but it was just so fucking intense. I
think when I watch it again tonight, I will cry because I was moreso
trying to see who each person was as they were older.

Was it me
or was there a shot I think at Claire and Ted's wedding where Dorell
was holding hands with an Asian man? Kind of neat how having the gay
Fathers influenced his sexuality.

Some of the characters were
kind of hard to tell who they were at first, especially as time went
on. But Claire, on her deathbed and all the photographs was just great.
In the end that is sometimes the most precious thing to hold onto,
memories of our loved ones and those who have touched our lives. In a
weird way it just makes me want to go tell my family that I simply love
them.

I just feel a little bit too connected with this show. Weird but comforting at the same time.

rewatched it On Demand and there was the other man that seems to have
come into David's life. It also looks like there must have been some
distance between Claire and Ted as displayed at Ruth's funeral. Really
nice way they played that out as well.

The weirdest part was the year in which people died. I'm only 20 but I still think 2015 is too far in the future for me to be living in. So when people where dying in 2046, 2067, 2085. I was like, "bullshit, people alive now won't be alive in the future." that's what happens when the 21st century is hyped beyond belief kids get all scared to be alive in the wacko future. WE'RE LIVING IN THE FUTURE!!!!! WE'RE GOING TO DIE IN THE FUTUREEEE!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I'm like sooo old. Jesus Christ.

What a fine ending to an incredible show. All the Fishers finally got what they wanted in the end and everyone was happy. I cried for an hour after it was over. And i'm getting teary eyed thinking about it right now.

I love how Billy actually bored Brenda to death with all his yapping. Hilarious!

and what about Maggie at the doctors when Ruth called her...was she pregnant? I guess we'll never know.

I'm STILL depressed after watching this last night. I could hardly sleep. The last 10 minutes, christ. They just struck me in such a deep weird way I can't get over it. I hate the fact my parents are in their late 70s. I hate the fact that I'm the youngest sibling and have to watch my brothers get old. The older you get the sadder life gets because everyone starts dying. Including beloved pet after beloved pet.

After watching it again, I can feel better about the ending. I didn't notice the first time what Billy was actually saying to Brenda before her death, but it had something to do with getting an emotional response out of Ted. 50 years later and Billy still couldn't get over it. He actually bored her to death. I loved it.

Billy was always my favorite character. I really only disliked Claire during season 4 with her artsy obnoxios friends. This season did make her grow up, get a job and find a relationship with someone other then a lunatic. Other then Keith's death, I really was happy with the end.
Never Rub Another Man's Rhubarb...

Another one I'm surprised I haven't chimed in on. It's one of the best shows I've ever seen, but, and again, watch it all to make your own opinion, but for me, the last season if not two or at least half of penultimate season and then the last really fucking sucked. I mean total disappointment. The last episode was awesome though. Anyway watch the whole thing, it's a good experience.
