I have been looking around on E-bay for some imported DVDs. What exactly do the region #'s mean? For example, some say all region and multi region. I know that North American DVD players are region 1. But would an all or multi region DVD play on my DVD player?

All or Multi region generally means without any regional encoding and is often found on PORNO DVD's - You DIRTY beast ;)

No, an all region DVD only plays in some regions.

From what I have experienced, South America and Asia usually have the multi-region DVD/VCD and do play in my Region 1 DVD player here at home. However they also play on the PC and if you don't mind tooling in front of the computer, it can work too. They still have yet to release Once Upon A Time In America here in the States but you can find it pretty readily available on ebay.

And yes there are quite a few porn titles available in all Regions too. Yowser!

Regions dictate what type of dvd you woll use. The two are called Pal or NTSC. Goto vcdhelp.com. It's the only other site I hang out on other than this board.

Supposedly, DVD's are coded for different regions to prevent piracy.

Arrrrrrrr

i bought 2 DVD players at Christmas time for my daughters pc's... After installing them I tried to play the new MIB(Men In Black) dvd and recieved a region code error. I had absolutely no idea what a region code was... I thought I bought some bum dvd players at Circuit City...
I was playing with the jumpers on the CD and DVD, switching IMA cable locations, uninstalling and re-installing the s/w... Then I'm all over the Internet trying to learn about these region codes, a bit of a pain in the butt...
The next day I put in a DVD that had "region 1" on the inner circle of the DVD and then a Menu popped up and asked me to select the region, 1 was for US and Canada, I selected it and haven't had a problem since...
