Their self-esteem, their future sexual life can be devastated by it, their spirit can be altered from it, "trust issues" in other people can be destroyed, girls (and boys) can be permanently physically harmed by it. I have heard of people actually developing "other personalities" to deal with sexual abuse. Drug and alcohol abuse is common among people who have been sexually abused as well as depression. Just general relationships with others is altered. Nightmares, post traumatic stress syndrome are also common. A large portion of runaways and prostitutes were molested and just "never could get their lives together". Promiscuity is very common among girls who have been molested. And it is the type of promiscuity that she doesn't understand and the type where she is left usually unhappy because of it.

If left untreated, it can absolutely devastate a person's life. It is truly a total "violation" of someone's soul, mind, body, and sexual identity.

I am usually a very understanding person, but I feel that child molesters should be imprisoned for life. The recurrance rate of doing these same acts again on people (even with treatment) is very high. (The last I heard, it was something like 90%.)
