If I'm not mistaken, the first cable system I remember only had HBO. I remember someone having to turn on the box everytime you wanted to watch it, and I don't think you could change the regular TV channels with it. The ONLY movies I rememebr seeing were Rocky III and "Children Of The Corn" and possibally "Cujo"

Yea it was a square, and they had a little number printed on the top, and you pushed in. There were only what, 20 buttons, if that. MTV was the one to watch back then.

I always like the SLIDING cable selector on a long cable. You moved the plastic selector along a track with the channel numbers on it until you got to your channel.

Yea, cause the picture never came in clear, so it had to be adjusted. And if you started to push in the buttons too quickly, it would jam and get stuck.

my old cable box only had 12 buttons, but it had one lever on the left side that if you hit it you would go to the next series of channels. So it only had 12 channel options going across, but it had 3 tiers so a total of 36 channels. i remember going to the "pay" channels and thought if i clicked the button quick enough i would get the channel to come in.

Absolutely! I remember sitting up all night watching the scrambled channels and just being the average horny high school kid. Things got great after an awful thunder storm and, what's that on Channel 98? The PLAYBOY Channel uncut, unscrambled and in FULL FRONTAL color. I remember the first night there being a non-penetration showing Christy Canyon movie and I was in LOVE! Luckyily that was the summertime and I could stay up ALL night long. I didn't mind the "box"... after I learned how to properly bend an index card, slide it in above the dial and pick up HBO, Showtime, and the other "pay channels"

I remember telling Mother that I was "sick" so I could stay home and watch "Dressed To Kill" on HBO. Back then their "New Releases" aired on the first day of the month, no matter what day of the week it fell on, and the first show time was 9am.

I recall the box had a dial with about 30 or 40 channels on it, and when I wanted to go from, say, channel 4 to channel 30, I'd get up, go over and wring that sucker around in one quick twist. After doing this a number of times, I wore out the little notches between the channels and had to get a new box. I also had a portable VCR that a friend had stolen from 7-11, where they used to rent them.
