View Full Version : The two problems I had with the State of the Union speech tonight

First, the way he says the word "peninsula".
Second, he used the word "Hitlerism". Is that sort of like fascism?

rmw - Can you enlighten me as to when I said the president's address was unimportant? I'm quite sure "nucular" is not a word, and that's simply all I said. If you disagree and think "nucular" IS a word, then you're wrong. However, you seem to have drawn the conclusion that I found the speech insignificant. I'm not sure I understand who told you that.

It was a strong address covering domestic and international issues. Bush's case for disarming Iraq was compelling. However, keep in mind it is just the begining. Over the next few weeks we will learn a great deal of detail regarding the issues he touched upon tonight. In particular, look for Powell to make the strongest case at the UN.

Did anyone see how the one side of the room, the Democrats, refused to stand up for like 90% of the standing ovations?
What ballbags!
On the way out though it looked like Tom Daschle wanted to say something to Bush, but he snubbed him.

Why not make the strongest case to the American people and actually get them behind you first? I support a war on Iraq, though I don't think this president has made any compelling case or shown any evidence of justification. I still say get 'em, but why not show all the naysayers exactly why we should do it.

That really isn't the purpose of the State of the Union address. It's entirely appropriate to defer the more detailed revelations to another time, and to the Scretary of State. Plus, holding off until the UN address keeps Iraq and their defenders from spinning it all before Powell gets there.
I may not have been trying as hard to find things to make fun of Bush for as some of you, but I didn't notice him pronouncing nuclear wrong this time... peninsula WAS weird, though.
And if I were the President, I would've snubbed Daschle (and Gephardt too for that manner) as well. Over the past few months they have both increasingly been directly and personally insulting towards GW. Arguing over policy and disagreeing over philosophy is one thing, but Congressional leaders calling the President of the United States names crosses a line.

Also, what's the deal with Iran?
I mean, we all know about the embassy thing, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if terrorists were just flying out of there, but nobody's addressed the reasons as to why it's on the Axis of Evil once.

How the hell could this even possibly be "the most important" public address I'll ever hear in my lifetime? Did he declare every Tuesday to be "National Punch Mojo In The Sac While He Sleeps" day? Because otherwise it was probably the same meandering politcal pep rally it's been for the last 25 years now...

I honestly don't mean to directly insult peoples' intelligence, but if this statement is anything but a joke, I'm frightened. You have to have paid attention to what has been going on in the world before the last week or so... so many of these politicians rely on the American people to be uneducated on the issues.. you have to fight it!! This is really, really easy. As opposed to actually explaining how you could even fathom this as "the most important address I may hear in my lifetime." That's hard because it's monstrously retarded.

I was actually out and missed viewing the Address....but I did manage to read the transcript of it. After reading it, I would imagine that watching it would have been something out of an infomercial for war and reelection.
And BTW, it's a common occurrence for the minority party to not be as out going, applaud and such. It's not just the Democrats (I'm not one...so you know)...it's been that way for a long time.
Ps..There was one person referring to being worried about living and working in DC? It's probably cause you're surrounded by politicians, lawyers and lobbyists.
