I know stickyfingers is with me on this one.

I got into Johnny Cash only about a month ago and I am completely enamored. Pure brilliance. My only regret is not being introduced sooner, because the man doesnt have much time left.

Between Ring of Fire (Applebees [i think] theme) and the Dukes of Hazzard theme song everyone should know the voice. But let me delve further.

I started by listening to his covers. His versions of Harry Chapin's 'Cat's in the Cradle', Soundgarden's 'Rusty Cage' U2's 'One', and Depeche Mode's 'Personal Jesus' are simple and masterful. His versions of NIN's 'Hurt' and Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on Fire' are haunting and beautiful.

I'm getting into his originals slowly but surely, and 'Boy Named Sue' has grasped my attention. Its very funny and very touching at the same time.

But by far, the very most rocking tune of all is a little ditty he does with Alice in Chains called "Time of the Preacher" I am not sure if this is a Johnny Cash original or an AIC original (someone enlighten me) but it fucking ROCKS! How this tune was never destroyed by msinstream radio, I'll never know.

I am looking forward to checking out more of his works. I would suggest you cats do the same.

No joke. Johnny Cash rocks. I've never met anyone who seriously didn't like him.

The Dukes of Hazzard theme was done by Waylon Jennings.

But, back to your original point, yes -- Johnny Cash has put out some great material for almost 50 years now.

A Skidmark production.

CASH RULES! There was a trilogy of his that came out a few years back (if someone could enlighten me to the title) that was broken down between his songs about death, life and God I think. Great stuff.

i like the fact that you can listen to his music on the Internet without downloading, this is especially good at work

"I walk the line" "Folsom Prison blues"

i know patches knows what i am talking about from an earlier post....but here's a little advice....do not under any circumstances feel the need to try to duplicate this man's voice...you will be booed off stage and hung in the middle of town because no one sounds like him

...his covers...Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on Fire'...haunting and beautiful.

I only stumbled across "Hurt" because I was tooling past KRock during the 'off air' hours of WNEW (a.k.a. the Leykis show). I though it was cool, but wasn't sure if I would bother stealing a copy of it. Now I've got to go download this. That is the only Bruce song I've ever liked. Thanks for the info.
