Does anyone know how I can learn the Identity of someone just from and ISP #?

There's been some cowardly bastard who will suddenly drop some very offensive comments about my band and the members in our guestbook on our Band Website.

Of course the FUCKER won't leave a name, E-mail or website cause he knows UNHALLOWED would descend upon him and feed him his own genitals. But my guestbook DOES record the ISP number the person sent it from.

SO does anyone out there now how I can find out who someone is by this number?

This is a serious post of mine for once and any help would really be appreciated. This guy will feel his last breaths escape from his own lungs with my bare hands wrapped around his crushed throat.

There's a lot of sites online that will do reverse DNS lookups. The only thing is unless it is a "permanent" connection (T1 line, broadband, etc) you're not getting much info. If the user is using dialup, you will get something pointing to the ISP, but no person's name or anything, and the only way to go further with it is to contact the respective ISP.

If the guy's using broadband, the computer name might show up, and you could take measures to block it or something.

I will also help you track them down if needs be. Most PC's running Windows and all Macs running OS X have tools built in to "look" up the Internet addresses etc.

Keep records of the IP addresses and the times these entries occurred as these will be needed.

Again you have already had offers of help, if you need further info regarding legal aspects of this matter email me as it is my area of speciality. Or any further help in any related area.

Thanks everyone. A few people contacted me personally, and it turns out that all the ways I've looked of people looked for me say it's an AOL member with a dial-up connection. So it's not easy to track.

And if my only recourse is complaining to AOL, then I will of course, but I don't expect much action.

Actually, if they threatened you in the guestbook, and you call AOL and tell them that, they most likely will do something.

I had some creepy guy IMing me all the time after he went to my site, and I checked his IP address and voila! He was using his work computer, and the name of the company showed up in the reverse DNS lookup. Scared the shit outta him when I said, so you work at soandso company.
