Did the format die completely or does it still exist. Just curious if anyone knows.

It went out with the Harvey Wallbanger.

It actually did completely die...My Betamax VCR died in 1995...and since then I haven't been able to watch Romancing the Stone...DAMNIT!

I am actually on a quest for these and any early Kay Parker, Seka and Vanessa Del Rio films. Taboo and The Devil in Miss Jones are still some of the best smut from the 70's.

Though technically superior to VHS it lost the "format" war. It was still quite popular in Japan until recently.

There was a further format called V2000 which was introduced by Philips in Europe that was better than either but it arrived too late.

I had all three at one time - don't ask me why.

Beta went the way of the Dodo Bird.

It was major market take over by JVC's VHS, due to reasons I cant undestand to this day, VHS (an inferior technological format) won over the video tape market over Betamax (sony) and V2000 (philips) which were MUCH better systems.

Conspiracy theories anyone???

Peace & Hugs,

I bet if those format wars were fought today, Sony would have won! Their stuff is the best!

What the "F" do I do with all the "Beta" tapes I own?

I always thought beta was the better format. I guess the longer VHS tapes won out.

Viva Vanessa!

Betamax was tehcnically superior to VHS, but didn't catch on. Sega Genesis was technically superior to the original Nintendo, but we know who won that battle.
