The great Richard Crena died on Saturday. I remember one of the most frightening tv movies of the week starring Crena. It was called "The Rape of Richard Beck."
Crena as Beck is a cop who pursues some gnarly looking punks and, in the process, falls prey to a trap. The semiconscious Beck is at the mercy of the punks. Then, unceremoniously, one of the punks unbuttons his pants and says -- to his partner, who is tying Beck up -- "just my lucky day. My old lady ran out on me" or something like that.
Next thing I know, Richard Crena is in a hospital, in the white gown, getting "evidence" taken from his ... ahem ... person. His pale complexion wavering in the close up.
He recieved an Emmy for the harrowing portrayal. I had nightmares for a while ...
