I don't really think it had more to do with race, than it did with the fact that both of them really aren't great musicians and they've been overexposed.

Shit, I'd have booed them. I live in D.C., a predominantly urban city. I hear both of them ALL the time on the radio here. I'm just tired of them both, everywhere I turn, I see them. It's almost as bad as goddamn J-Lo.

ja rule is not rap, he's a pop star who raps. gangsta rap is the same as death metal, they talk about it, but most of them don't do anything close to what they talk about. it's entertainment.
The only stuff i see on eMpTy Vee all sounds the same. if mtv shows anything groundbreaking, they repeat it 8 billion times, and find 20 groups that sound the same.
I am a music fan, i like stuff from deicide to onyx, from eminem to manowar, from deftones to DMX. what you like is what you like, but demographics hold true, in a majority white male dominated stadium, ja rule is not gonna hold up against any rock band.

Is he a rapper or a hip-hop artist?

If you take the time to listen to his lyrics, you'll see that they're fucking intense.

I agree that the "pop" version of hip-hop is annoying. It isn't what was intended of the artform. But, to lump all of it into one "shitty genre" of music, as some people are doing, is ignorant and reflects how immature people can be. I don't hate any music. It's fucking music. Rock is not dieing and neither is rap. both just are just evoling. In my opinion the rap of today is just garbage except for a few rappers. Now i loved rap when i think it was at its best. from 90-98 Ice Cubes Preditor ablum is just insane. the rap of today just sucks with groups like cash money and what not...i listen to all music and there is bad music in all groups.. and remember the hip hop term was coined because of 3 jewish boys from manhattan.. before you go throwing racist comments check with the person to see if have misunderstood his post. and if you can't take shit then don't go and act holier than thou to others..

Ja Rule first album good every thing after that just sucks that he put out because he went for the money. I think it is funny that people identify rap as gangsta rap not since NWA and early ice cube has there been any kind of gangsta rap out.
And i find it funny that fans of rock point out fashion and the clothes people wear--i mean come on 80's hair rock bands alone should have killed rock but im sure that all of the death metal groups are on the cutting edge of fashion. Give me a furry kangoo and a pair of adidas with fat laces and im set.

I listen to pretty much all kinds of music but i would have to say that hip-hop/rap is the predominant theme in music now, that is why most "alternative" bands now are more like trip-hop/rap-rock because it has taken over where rock left off--its simply the progression of music and fashion--from punk to rock to hip-hop so dont hate the players just hate the game that is involved because bottom line rock is dying out.

and as far as talented rap/hip-hop artist counting them on one hand give me a break--be aware of a subject before making an ignorant statement like that

For a so-called knowledged you're making some half-assed stupid statements. First of all rock is not dead/dying. I say rock is dying creatively but its still a force financially. Rap did not replace rock unless you know some Nelly/ Jay-Z fans who used to listen to Alice in Chains and Guns N Roses. The only reason Rap is so successful is because it is so easy to spoonfeed to its gullible audience. They overproduce a few singles and flood the rest of the album with filler. Also Rap usually lacks any sort of lasting appeal. Does anyone still listen to old Busta Rhymes albums or Post illmatic pre-stillmatic Nas? I stand by the statement that there are maybe 4 or 5 truly talented rappers out there right now. When I say that I mean the major label rappers of course not some obscure local rapper.
