i kinda liked that "telephone line" song...
just wanna go kill yourself it seemsjust because someone listens to sad music with thoughtul, introspective, and emotive lyrics, that does not mean they want to kill themselves. generalizations like that are very scary. there are plenty of completely fucked up, potentially suicidal people listening to metal, pop, rock or any number of other things

It was cool when "emo" meant anything from Rites of Spring to Jawbreaker. There are still a few decent so-called "Emo" acts like Bright Eyes, Alkaline Trio, The Anniversary, The Dismemberment Plan and Jimmy Eat World, but mostly run along the awful lines of Dashboard Confessional and current Weezer. Ugh.

seriously... he said it perfectly.
EMO was made seriously for all the people that couldnt handle hardcore. Emo was made for the people we beat the piss out of and they still wanted to be part of something so they found emo.
Look at a lot of the emo kids. They are all kids who were at one time hardcore kids and they basically had gotten kicked out of the scene. think i am joking? i am speaking the dead truth.
vintage t-shirts, tight jeans, cordoroy, sweaters... THEY DONT BELONG IN HARDCORE... and remember, the only reason why guys get into emo is to get girls like yourself.
if you think i am lying, trust me, i know some of the fruits that do that... and i make fun of them

i dont know.. i know some people who are actually into both the hardcore and emo scenes. of course, they dont really fit into the image of either. i'm not saying that it never happens, but it could be that people just have different tastes, and that some people like emo, where others like hardcore (or other genres).

Huh? I like some Bright Eyes stuff, but I have no ideas which bands are classified as what. I'm pretty sure I don't like any "hardcore" bands, but I don't like to pigeon-hole my musical tastes into one category. Call me crazy.

Emo was birthed out of hardcore. Emo "officially" began with Rites of Spring, who were on Dischord Records, and fronted by Guy Picciotto, who's now the co-frontman/guitarist of Fugazi. DC is the holy mecca of hardcore (Please. Don't even try to front.), and emo was forged in its fires.
Good for it...there's still some hope...look to The Dismemberment Plan.
Death Cab For Cutie are pretty nifty, too. They're from the OTHER Washington.

I cant agree with you...EMO was Birthed out of fear....Its not that I am Talking down to any one that is into diff music other then hardcore actully, it would appear that that's exaclty what you're doing. saying that an entire genre of music developed because the people who would come to be its proponents were too scared of those who likes a related, but wholly different genre seems rather condescending.
look at it this way would you put a bunch of people that like rap in the same room with people that like country musicfirst of all, depending on the situation, sure i would. second, just because two groups clash with one another does not support your assertion that one of the two is better than the other. a person who likes rap and one who likes country may not get along well together (although, it would seem that the rap fans get along far worse internally), but why does this imply that one is better? you will find many people on either side of that argument.

I didnt say one was better or worse then the other.speaking for myself only.
Let me ask you a question have you ever been to a hardcore show? for me and i am sure others that have there is a family feel to it but just like this place it takes time to make friends or be a part of a scene.Emo kids in my experinces have been stuck up dicks that dont like to follow the rules that go along with hardcore just like here there are unwriten rules that one must follow and the main one is respect....and you dont have to play or sound one way to be hardcore...I think terror will agree with me on this...

no offense, but i can't understand what the fuck you're trying to say
So you think you're in the middle of the ocean
Stranded on an island of your own
Or stuck in the top of a mountain
Either way you're gonna say you're all alone
And I hesitate to say that you're a liar
I never tell the truth myself
But I tried to chase you down and I got tired
So I'm leaving you to you or someone else
`Cuz you never wanna hook up in the middle
And I'd meet you there to talk if you would show
But you answer every question with a riddle
And refuse to even choose to let me go
It used to be I'd tell you all my secrets
Giving you the credit you deserve
I guess you didn't care to lose or keep it
And we never quite connected from the first
And I wish I had a way to make it better
To rearrange the world and make you smile
But it's dumb to even think I had that power
And we haven't been that close in a while
And I don't even wanna try to name it
Explain it for the one who couldn't care
`Cuz all that matters is the way you choose to frame it
And I hesitate to say that you're a liar
I never tell the truth myself
But I tried to chase you down and I got tired
So I'm leaving you to you or someone else
`Cuz you never wanna hook up in the middle
And I'd meet you there to talk if you would show

metalhead rednecks
I don't see many flailing feet at a metal show... arms, yes; Gorilla-Sized skinheads launching themselves into women so they look tough, yes. It's the flyin' feet that bug me and I usually only see them at punk/hardcore shows
When I refered to Chaka Malik, the lead singer of Orange 9mm, he was pissed that nobody could rock out to them, because they didn't want to get kicked in the face by the few shitheads dominating the already small floor...
And Jratt, I used 'shithead' to refer to the person who's foot I just dodged, not you personally...
And if the whole point of going to a show is to fight, count me out. call me a pussy if you want, but most of the ones I see doing that shit look young enough to still be on their parents' health insurance...

That's stage-diving, and yes, that started as a hardcore tradition. At least with that I can usually see someone passing overhead. The metal guys really inserted the whole "beat the shit outta the guy next to you because you CAN" mentality, which is what I can't stand, because it usally means I'll get punched in the back of the head because I'm "daring" to actually try and watch the show I paid to see. The kids today are so stupidly eager to "mosh", half the time they don't even stop to help up someone who's been knocked down, and that's just wrong. Back in "my day" (OLD), anyone went down, you made sure they were up and safe. It's just the decent thing to do. Nobody was there to get hurt.

No problem, Jratt. Yeah, when I would go to a Clutch or Fear Factory (sniff) show, and someone falls in the pit, everyone nearby will stop and try to help him up, but I've also been to shows where people try to step on them, go figure...

there is stage diving and crowd surfing. I personally find that more acceptable; but I mean the "pseudo-karate" some people do in pits. But "the pit" forms anywhere and everywhere. Half the time people don't have a choice as to whether they're in it or not, they just have to cram up because two jerkoffs decided to start swinging. You get 4 or 5 people taking up the space of twenty because they can only feel a tingle in their pee-pee if they rub knuckles on someone else's head? Please.

there is stage diving and crowd surfing. I personally find that more acceptable: but I mean the "pseudo-karate" some people do in pits. It's definately not a Metal thing
It's more of a meeting between the two. Metal moshing is about hurting through physical release, whether you try to or not. Slamdancing was about getting physical with the people around you, but not conciously trying to hit/punch/kick/push them. Some of the dances were pretty wild, lotta flailing and kicking. You get a lot of people today who take that aspect when they get into the pit and are just "dancing" instead of moshing, but at the same time are fully aware they're hitting people and simply decide to just not give a shit.

Back in "my day" (OLD), anyone went down, you made sure they were up and safe.
I agree. That was always the rule, when someone went down, you helped em up. Nowadays, I'm reaching down to grab someone off the floor, while everyone else is stompin on them. Its insane

i like where this discussion is going now...
Let me ask you a question have you ever been to a hardcore show? for me and i am sure others that have there is a family feel to it but just like this place it takes time to make friends or be a part of a scene.Emo kids in my experinces have been stuck up dicks that dont like to follow the rules that go along with hardcore just like here there are unwriten rules that one must follow and the main one is respect...i have been to quite a few hardcore shows back in the day. and i do understand the sense of family that you're talking about. but that can be present at other types of shows, too. i haven't gone to so many emo shows, but the one's i've been to have generally been ok, audience-wise... i think there's often a sense of comaraderie when you get a whole bunch of people together who have something important to them in common.
i have no problem with the hardcore scene, or those who might prefer it to emo or whatever else. and i, too, would take minor threat over fugazi any day of the week (and lest we forget embrace...). see, a bright eyes loving girl isn't necessarily so far from some guy slamming into his fellow concert-goers at a youth of today show. i just hate it when people generalize so much... i can be letting my little heart break at a bright eyes show one night, and then getting all sweaty at a murphy's law show the next.

ummm.... thats actually a written rule... you cannot go to a bright eyes show then a murphys law show...
you go to a show to cry and be sad, then you go to a show to get drunk and high and have fun?
im writing that on the bathroom wall of cbgb's next week

im writing that on the bathroom wall of cbgb's next weeknot just murphy's law, of course... i just think that's one of the more recent shows i went to, so it came to mind. i've probably been to more shows at cbgb than a lot of hard core hardcore kids. i'd like to know where this "rule" is written... i'd be curious to see what other hardcore covenants i'm breaking.
