At least I did back in the late 70's early 80's before the one's close to me in Hatfield and Quakertown, PA both converted into Roy Rogers. Both buildings are still there today but only the Hatfield location still has some of the same architechture the old Gino's had. I vaugely remember going in for the GIANT which at the age of 8 I could take on. What a great burger. I challenge any of the fast food establishments out there today to beat that one. Where else could you get great burgers AND great KFC Original Recipe under the SAME roof! I really miss Gino's and am getting damn hungry for some Original Recipe right about now.
Every day striving for the
Pewter Helmet Award of
Shame.

for a long time i was confused... it was after Gino's turned into KFC or Kentucky Fried Chicken...
another childhood memory...

"and when you're bad you die when you die"
There was a Gino's around the corner from my elementary school. Every Friday night after a basketball game or whatever function was going on, we'd all head over there for the greatest greasy burgers and fries ever. Yes, even better than McDonald's.
It was an institution, and I wish they were still around.

Wow...what a blast from the past. I can't remember the last time I even thought about Gino's. I think the Gino's on Bloomfiled Ave. in Bloomfield has been gone since about 1980. I don't know if it ever became a KFC in between, but recently it was a Roy's, and now it's a Wendy's.
Thanks for the memories.

Wow!Nice find! And it's all true.Ithought it was urban legend that the chain was started by Balt Colts players(actually I was a patron at a couple of Gino's since the early '60's in NJ).
The burgers cost just 15 cents then and they were my personal preference over Mc Donald's(though quite similar).
Do a RFNet search on Weston's(another great burger palace of the 60's and 70's).If I remember correctly, the thread was started by Tall James.

Completely forgot about Ginos. Now its all coming back to me. My mom used to take me to the Ginos on Bergenline Ave in Union City after school at least once a week. Then they turned it into a Roy Rogers.

Speaking of which, anyone know if there are there any Roy Rogers left out there? I always preferred their fried chicken to KFC.

Holy crap!!! I did a Google search of Ginos in my town (I think we had one when I was a kid, but wasn't sure), and for some reason, I found an old friend! This guy was one of my best friend's ever, but I lost touch with him about 8 years ago.

Speaking of which, anyone know if there are there any Roy Rogers
left out there? I always preferred their fried chicken to KFC.

As far as Roy's goes, I got all giddy when I spotted
some fresh and newly opened Roy's out in the Maryland panhandle around
Frederick and in Northern Virginia around Leesburg. Still the Fixin's
Bar and still able to satisfy my OCD by getting 2 Solo Cups of each
condiment and setting them up as if they were to be led into the Ark.
Then of course dipping my fries in each one in a repetitive clockwise
order. And the pickles.....the PICKLES!!!

Gino's.....I am still
searching for the elusive Red Tin Ashtray and the Red Ceramic Ashtray
for my collection. Also trying to find a menu board but I know that I
am pretty much shit out of luck there.

There was a local owner who has 20 or 30 of them, mostly in Western Maryland. He kept his open while the chain was being bought and sold and bought and sold. They've done well enough, I guess, that he's opened up some new ones. I'm not sure if there is a connection with the Turnpike ones.

I remember when McDonalds switched to the flat ended stirrer for that very reason. On Saturday Night Live (origional cast) News, they did their version of the story. When they showed the "new design" it was a pot pipe with the Golden Arches on the side!

We had a Gino's here in Frederick! Then it turned into a Hardees, now it's a
Boston Market.
We also had Burger Chef!

We had a Burger Chef here in Winchester. Behind it was the miniture golf place. Fun times! We also had one of the last two Hardee's in the country, that were the round design with the big points on the top. They finally tore it down about 15 years ago to make more parking for Burger King.
