Yup, I read about this late
last night, but before the
official pictures were
released, so I'm actually
quite disappointed
considering the intentions I
had prior to going to bed...
Speculation was on 4 face
buttons (like the SNES
controller) and an upgraded
sound card. Instead,
identical hardware, it
looks less comfortable than
the current GBA, and it
needs an ADAPTER for
headphones? No
headphone jack built in?
What kind of crap is that?
I'll stick with my modded
GBA with the Afterburner.
*Edit: Oh yeah, not to
mention - forget about
playing multiplayer games
with headphones. It's not a
pass-through adapter. And
even with a rechargable
lithium ion battery it only
gets 10 hours per session.

While a clamshell screen is a good idea to protect the LCD, it looks unwieldy and uncomfortable to hold.
And 32,000 colors? That's ~15 bit graphics. What kind of non-standard setup is that? I'm sure there are plenty of 16 or 32 bit graphics chipsets that could have been used.

Personally Im starting to hate Nintendo as much as I hate Sega. Im not a fan of any of the Gameboys and prefer the PSone with the portable 4" screen more.
What do I have to say? This is not a bit!

Well, it looks better for someone like me, who uses my GBA to commute everyday when I use it. The essential hardware is the same, so it uses all the exisiting software. I don't use headphones with my GBA (adapter sold seperately), I either have the volume up or have my headphones on my iPod or radio.
The major diff is that this one is half the size of the existing GBA.

Light is able to be turned off.
It has a built in light, personally I use my light more in a month than I'ld ever use head phones. And why would you want to use head phones for multiplayer games?

Ah so that's what it is, i knew nintendo was going to add a backlight but they really went all out when they did it.

They should've put on a backlight on the original gb... it really sucked it up.
When Fox5 was airing it's crap about "New Game Boy", I thought "there is no new game boy, so they must be talking about gba, which isnt that new", but I didnt know about THIS.

They're a bit late with this, but better late than never. Unfortunately, I no longer commute by bus or rail, so I can't justify the purchase with the warden (aka - the Mrs.) It's a good design though, clamshell, lights, and all. A tad pricey though.

The only thing wrong with the old gameboy was lack of backlight.
I guess as long as its got a backlight i'll dig it.
The games were pretty bomb.

You're shittin me, the GBA is small, how small could you get. What is it, a beeper.

I sit,
in my desolate room,
no lights, no music,
Just anger,
I've killed everyone,
I'm away forever,
but I'm feeling better,
I don't play video games, and now I know why. I clicked on Jon's link, and that guy has to be the personification of the word "nerd."

That shell of a man depicted at the end of that link used to be none other than the romance hunk FABIO! Amazing what a few hours of videogaming will do to a man's physique.

It has a front light. The light is projected from in front of the screen because it still uses the old reflective screen.
forget about
playing multiplayer games
with headphones. It's not a
pass-through adapter.
headphones use the AC adapter port, so you can't charge and use headphones, but you can link up and use headphones.
And I know deep in heart that GVAC will find me irresistible once I get my GBA SP.
