View Full Version : Since when did the brim on a cap stop getting curved?

I have been noticing this alot recently and it looks incredibly dumb to me. I remember every time I would get a damn cap I would curve the brim and it would fit o so comfy on my head. Is it another new fad now that people are not only leaving the brim straight but also leaving the tags and little holograms on? Is it supposed to look like the cap was just stolen on what? Then again maybe I just missed the boat but it is incredibly irritating to me. Little things have really been getting at me here recently.

I also included a reference to this trend in a post a few weeks ago. I noticed the same thing. It looks like the urban youth of today are ironing their brims flat.
Before that it was wearing the hat with the fucking tag hanging out like it was stolen or something. Who starts these trends?
I'm a huge curve guy and don't give a shit about the trends. My brims are all curved more than a parabola drawn from a equation where the y is a real number multiple of 3.
And what about the college trend of having a frayed brim, like you wore the hat so much, it just disintegrated, leaving tendrils hanging from the brim?(you need certain brands to get this effect.)
I'm guilty of this one, but only on my hats with the plastic brim underneath.
What's really heinous is the hats that are sold new but made to look "aged" already. Like jeans you buy with holes already in them that cost $300.

I've noticed this, it looks like when the slow kid in school would wear a hat and didn't realize that you had to crease it for it to fit well.
More heinous to be is the visor trend in this country. Maybe i'm wrong but I always felt like visors should only be worn by old men and golfers. Worse yet it when i'm walking in a public place and see some young kid walking around with his visor not only on backwards, but upside down? Has this entire country become completely retarded? Christ.

I think it may just be the TRL youth. You know, the idiopts who wait outide to see Eminem look out a fucking window. I cannot wait to see Eminem crash and burn but that is a whole other story. I would not mind burning out his eyes with a cigarette lighter from a car. SSSSSST! Let's see you lose yourself now...DICK!

I will always wear a curve in my hat. About the "aged" hats, I like the retro look, if that is what you mean. Right now I'm wearing a hat that says: "Air Force Academy, Established 1954" and it's made to look like an older hat. I must admit that I do wear my NY Dragons visor when I go to the beach or something.

NO, retro hats are cool. I'm talking hats that you purchase BRAND NEW that are already torn in the brim like they've been worn. I'm serious. You can buy them at LIDS in the mall.

It's a hip-hop thing.
These fuckin' pinwheel colored hats are everywhere, accompanied by a matching jersey, usually of a sport's team different than that of the hat.
It annoys me.

i try to keep my hats consistent with the jerseys i wear..like if i wear my Capitals jersey, ill wear my Capitals hat, or my Oakland Raiders hat with my Oakland Raiders jersey..
Im totally into "Flexseam" hats now...its supposed to conform to whatever size head goes in the hat, and i really like them. I cant deal with plastic tags cause i always break them, and the velcro tag is annoying as hell, and a regular fitted hat shrinks after a while, as what happened to my Red Sox hat..

BTW I love it when I go up to someone and go "(Insert team)!? Why?" and they get all "WTF are you talking about?" They don't even realize what they are representing. Its even worse when I say "GO (team's archrival, i.e. Duke vs UNC)" and they give me the "WTF" look

Oh, and another thing:
DO NOT wear a red CK1 hat in a area that is Crip territory. I wore my red Chairman Kaga hat in Compton and had to have my bodyguards from the Piru Bloods run some 187's with my Tec-9's when some Long Beach Crips tried to put a cap IN me.
Luckily, I'm the White Frank White.

Kaga, I like going into Lids and having a pre-curved hat.
They even sell a device at Lids called "Perfect Curve", a plastic contraption that you place on your brim to get the perfect curve on the lid. Apparently not a big seller with the black youths of today...
My secret to a great curve is just to fold the brim inside the back opening of a non-fitted cap, under the plastic adjustable strap. Money.
As far as the brim, the more curved the better, parabolic and worn low. Broken in naturally (but washed since you can't wear a funky smelling hat).
Best brand for amazing wear and frays:Zephyr's "Z" hat. My Nebraska Blackshirts hat is so worn-in now, it has gossamery tendrils falling off the brim like the bottom of a Vidalia onion in late November.
And the plastic is getting nicely exposed, like the bone showing through a mad compound fracture.
To wash, get one of those white plastic frames from Sports Authority, add a couple of plastic cable ties to ensure proper placement of hat during wash cycle (my secret...but make sure you snip off the ends cleanly) and wash warm with Ivory Snow powder and gentle cycle. If your hat has the serious funk, a little Shout on the inside helps.

Just squeeze the brim together and tuck it through the strap in the back. Of course, you're screwed if it's a fitted cap...

I was in Lids about two weeks and I noticed the frayed hats in there now. In some ways it looks cool as if you've had it a long time.
I'm still looking for an old style Orioles cap, I've gone to several stores trying to find one and I can't.

I seen some of them new "distressed" hats are now popular on "the street".
The urban kids seem to be going with the ones that have been hit with chains and scraped here and there with 60 grit sandpaper.
It's all the rage in Paris, too.
Of course, we didn't have this problem back in the day of the snap-brim hat (sigh).
