I am always amazed at how many of the zany things in the Simpsons actually happend in real life as proven by the article 'Fan who sat on flagpole in 1949 for 117 days dies.' I never knew this was a real incident and now wonder what else the Simpsons did mirrored life events. Incidently when this actually happened, the pole was put into center field ala the Simpsons episode where Homer did the exact same thing...with sexy results.
