I dont know if this was discussed before..but i started the ATKINS diet on Sunday and after 3 days, well, i was just wondering if anyone was on it, or had something to share about it.

I'll be back on the Atkin's as of Jan. 2, 2003. It's the greatest diet in the world in that you don't have to count calories or measure portions, and can pretty much eat like a horse.

It also works unbelievably. A few years ago I dropped 35 pounds on the Atkin's and ate a 3 egg cheese omelette with bacon every morning for breakfast, cheesesteaks (minus the bun, of course) for lunch, and steaks for dinner.

Sugar-free Jell-O with whipped cream is a great dessert to satisfy the sweet tooth, as is an egg cream. Just put a teaspoon of cream or half and half in a glass of Diet Coke. It's delicious.

thanks gvac -
what did you do about supplements and blood tests? some of the message boards about atkins are scary and have such conflicting suggestions.

i too ate 3 eggs with cheese for breakfast, salmon or tuna with mayo for lunch and chicken or steak or dinner with the 1 cup of vegies they allow..snacks are hard to come by it seems, certainly nothing you can just "grab on teh go".

i've been doing a combo of the atkins and something called the "caveman" diet which breaks things down to the basic levels. i've lost 15lbs in the past 3 weeks. NICE. I'm gonna be super ripped soon.

Holy shit! I lost aout 30 lbs over a month span a couple years ago. I mean it's good. It works like gangbusters. The question you have to ask yourself is is it worth it. Believe me when I tell you that it is not as easy as it may seem. Something about not getting those carbs, and pissing on little sticks gets to you. Oh sure you'll lose weight, but you'll also lose part of your soul. Every night, I would go to Wendy's and get three Jr Bacon Chee's, take off the bun, roll 'em up and eat 'em. Man it takes some fucking intestinal fortitude to swallow those little grease patties. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Make sure you take vitamins to suppliment what you'll be missing out on. And eat low-carb veggies (lettuce, broccoli, celery, etc) too to make sure that you get plenty of fiber. meats have a tendency to stay in our digestive tract for too long and can often become hazardous without enough fiber to push it through.

The company that I own sells a high-protein low-carb nutrition plan that is similar to atkins in theory, but puts equal focus on nutrition and fiber, which people on Atkins often neglect.

I've found AIDS to be the best, most effective weight loss method ever. You can eat like a horse, and the pounds still keep coming off.

The "Coke" diet is still best.

But what about that diet that that crazy Billy Bob Thorton was on where you ate whatever you wanted as long as it was "orange."

As far as Atkins, my friend "Big Greg" from work lost 88 lbs on it in 8 months. His favorite lunch was a whole BJ's Wholesale bag of Buffalo Wings. He ate about 100 a day 4 times a week.

there's an article in this months' discover (or sci american not sure whitch) of how the food pyramid is messed up - that complex carbs in moderation and almost no red meat and no simple carbs is the best. They also reccomend limiting dairy, and explain why some fats/oils are good (think of all the "latest findings recently" such as omega 3, and lutein - those are from good fats). Worth picking up - simply dumping carbos is not a good idea. The "overloading carbos" and dumping fats of the 80's was an oversimplification of reccomendations taken to an extreem. THat's why the food pyramid is wrong.

what's the plan?
It's called "thermojetics: high-protein low-carbohydrates program" and its distributed by Herbalife International. Its a very good program. I lost about 40 pounds in 2 months on their regular program, and I haven't had a customer yet who has failed to lose at least some weight, so I have a lot of trust in this brand. Send me a PM if you're interested.

everyone has some good suggestions. the definite worst thing is snacks, it's hard to find a good one.

i would suggest finding those little bags of peanuts, they usually only have around 8 carbs in them and they are easy enough to find or carry around.

i lost crazy weight on this, make sure you take a good multi-vitamin and eat some salad with blue cheese once in awhile but good luck on it. try to keep some tuna fish and egg salad in a tupperware bowl in the fridge for emergencies.

2 Words: Ex-Lax

It works well, but when you don't take a dump for 5 days, you'll start to get a little worried...

Also, be sure to ween yourself off it...if you go back to eating a lot of carbs quickly, the weight will go right back on and you'll end up gaining.

Eat only green vegetables as your carbs...don't waste em on empty shit.

Pork Rinds are a good snack.

Does anyone remember that about 10 years ago there was actually a weight loss product CALLED Ayds? It was like those Kraft Caramel Chews you melt for caramel apples. I remember the commercials, often during Saturday Night Live.

I tried Herbalife and it worked for a while. Nothing wrong with the product, but it just wasn't for me. I think what I'm doing now is working and something that will continue to work. I just need to stay focused.
