Star Trek: Nemesis
What can I say when you heard these words star trek you picture, more than likely guys flocking to the theaters and computers talking about the characters. But the issue is on the latest in the Trek movies: Nemesis. This is the fourth movie featuring the next generation cast, after almost a five year break paramount gives the audience a storyline of the issues of cloning and the debate of nature versus nurture. The movie starts of with in the Romulan homeworld where the senate-government of the Romulans were killed and the movie quickly moves to a wedding of two of the main characters Commander William T. Riker and Counselor Deanna Troi, when many guest appearances are shown including Whoopi Goldberg reappearing as on of the series characters Guinan. Before the scene ends the android- Commander Data (Bret Spiner) sings Iriving Berlin's Blue skies. The crew heads to another part of the wedding which is to take place on another when the ship picks up unusual reading from a planet. The reading sends the crew to a desert like planet in which an away team finds what is an android similar to data. A brief chase begins with the inhabitant of the planet and Picard. The enterprise is then order to the planet Romulus- homeworld of their biggest enemies which leads to the introducing of a new alien. There the leader of the Romulans a man named Shizon(Tom Hardy) is introduced. Shizon tell Picard(Patrick Stewart) the reason of their trip: Peace. Well Picard and company is shocked, but the surprise does not end there, Picard figures out that shizon is a clone of him. During the rest of the movie, the battle between Picard and Shizon take over the majority of the movie, while the data and another android-B-4 develops. At the end of the movie there is a huge ship battle scene, which could have three possible endings, which gave an interesting twist in the movie, especially the ending of the movie involving one of the main characters.
I admit I am a star trek: the next generation fan, but I never like all star trek: TNG movies; Nemesis is darker, and more issue driven movie with the combination of drama and action. The scenes between Picard (Stewart) and Shizon (Hardy) are at the heart of the movie. The chemistry between the two of them, helped make the movie interesting with the battle scenes at the end. Nemesis is far better than the previous movie: Insurrection (1998). The movie is been labeled by as "A generation's final journey" if that is the case it ends with a bang. The movie is more action-oriented which makes the movie more interesting to not just trek fans by non-trek, and causal science fiction/fantasy fans I would recommend it move to anyone who want watch something different besides Lord of the Rings, and Gangs of New York.
Out of a rating of 5 Stars, Nemesis gets 4.5 out of 5
Next: Lord of the Rings, Gangs of New York
