I've always thought it was fake. I know nothing about it, but I've heard from many that something with the shadows in the pictures and movies are not what it should be on the moon.

My main reason is that the U.S. was going through a tough time and then we land on the moon to patch up feelings.

If anyone wants to debate whether or not the moon landing is fake I will meet ya have a pint or two and chew your ear off on what makes the conspiracy theory fucking people look like the fucking assholes that they are!!!! I think conspiracy theory people should be put into a burlap sack with king cobras, beaten and blasted to the fucking moon where the depressurization would cause there nimble little brains to explode.

To me it is an insult to the millions of men and women who worked on the greatest endeavour in human history, the Apollo Program, to say it is fake. Let me ask this. Have you ever heard of a conspiracy of less than three people survive?? And if you want to say yes, just think of this. When you are in High School and there was a rumor heard between just THREE people, how long was it before that rumor got out to the whole school, let alone the town?? There were over 500,000 people employed DIRECTLY by the Apollo porgram. You mean to tell me that there is a conpiracy of 500,000 people for over thirty years?!?!?!?! Anybody who listens to conspiracy theorists spit in the face of John F. Kennedy and any other president who worked to make the Apollo program a reality!!

Let me point out this little factoid...the Apollo Program was its own worst enemy. It proved that human beings could do the impossible, we could launch men aloft rockets and acheive what was believed to only be the feats of gods. For one person was quoted as saying "Impossible is only the failure of imagination..." A lot of people looked at Apollo and said "...if we could do this impossibility, why do other impossibilities here on Earth like feed every human" and so on and so forth. The ENTIRE cost of the Apollo program was 24 billion dollars. A hafty sum of money for a ten year program, but also be aware that Americans spent more on Alcohol, tobacco and horse betting in the same time frame. AND it is not like the money went into a lock box and was stashed away on the moon. That money provided JOBS for millions from contractors and sub-contractors. From people who made specialized equipment all the way down to people who made the tools for the specialized equipment...you mean to tell me after THIRTY years none of these people took an opporitunity to make a little extra cash to PROVE that the moon landing was a fake??!! Think clearly people...

It is like I said. If someone wants me to give you more of the facts, look for me out one day, lets grab a pint together and I will chew your ears off on what is fact and what is fiction...

Ok, devils advocate: Obviously, the us employed thousands of people for the space program. There was a "space race" going, and we wanted to win. But the russians were ahead of us, and it looked like we were gonna lose face. Sooo...the government took it upon themselves to fool not just the russians, but EVERYBODY. (thats how a conspiracy works, the fewer people who know the better). So they blasted an empty rocket off into space...while the astronauts were in a simulator. Maybe even they believed they were in space (drugged?). All the people watching the scanners, radar, communicating with the crew (yes, even ed harris), thought they were doing their jobs--hell--its just like watching a video game anyway! Next thing ya know--America wins the space race! and maybe a few months later, we do it for real. no harm done to our pride. Oh and as far as JFK, remember Independence Day? He didnt know it was fake either--Plausible deniability. And to quote another movie, Conspiracy Theory, mel gibson's character says, A good conspiracy is one that works--that no one in their right mind would believe is fake. Otherwise, "they" havent done their jobs right.// Why do many of us believe in God? In Santa? Because we are told by those in charge of us that they exist. It's true: the whole Apollo program was a fake.

The astronauts who were burned inside the Apollo 1 capsule? They were really killed in a soundstage fire.

Apollo 8 flying to and around the moon? Never happened. The first pictures of the earth as seen from space that they broadcast? Fakes.

Apollos 11, 12 and 14-17 landing on the moon? All fake -- it was done in Area 51.

Apollo 13? Just a made up story to recapture interest in the program.

In 1969, we were right smack in the middle of the Cold War. Like you say, we went to the moon to beat Russia in the space race. If anyone had the means to monitor the moon landing, it was the Soviet Union. Yet the Russians conceded that the US had, in fact, put a trio of Astronauts on the moon. Why would the Soviet Union be so eager to boost our already towering pedestal and embarass themselves in the process? They could've even LIED and said that the moon landing never happened, but they did no such thing. They left the lying to a minority within the American public.

It would have done a service to the Russian government if they had told the US that the moon landing was fake. If they can even get 10% of the US population to believe their lies (And buying into Communist lies was commonplace in 1969) they can create an even more intense anti-government movement which could have only helped them. Now, if this guy can type out all these answers, why is the government afraid to?Since I'm not privy to decision-making in NASA, I can only speculate, but the info in the article you linked to sounds plausible.

It's only fairly recently that this "theory" has gained more popularity, due to the presence of the internet. Perhaps, at the time, they figured that only a handful of people thought the landings were fake, and didn't want to spend the time (or money) to have someone combat the naysayers.

They then spent the money they saved on a $980 toilet seat and a $350 hammer.

Chris, I respect ya and all but to be frank and honest, you really need to catch up on your reading about the space race. By the time of Project Gemini (Three projects were Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo) we had not only passed the Russians, but we had eclipsed all of their acheivements. Ohhh sure the Russians had the first space man in orbit, the first spacewalk, the first woman in space. But a lot of their programs were "smoke and mirrors". The thing that was not discovered till after the fall of the USSR was that their first spacewalker, Alexi Leonov, his suit over pressurized basically overinflating the suit and almost preventing him from reentering his capsule. Also the Russian cosmonauts did not have total control of their capsules. In case of an emergency, the pilot would need a 6-digit code to override computer. The pilot had the first three memorized and the last three would be radioed up to him. And in the case of an attempt to ditch towards an Western Nation the capsule was rigged with explosives.

Ok getting back to the whole "they were beating us". By the end of Gemini, we had set all sorts of records including endurance, spacewalks and altitudes. The Russians were actually quiet throughout Gemini and wouldnt get back into space till 1967 with Soyuz. Gemini had proven that we were ready and willing for the rigors of Apollo and even the loss of 16 months following Apollo 1 till the launch of Apollo 7 in Oct 1968, Seven ecllipsed Vostok, Voskhod, and Soyuz. As a matter of fact the Russians would have to play catch up to all American records of endurance. And that is only cause NASA lost its way during the 1980's, when the Russians finally ecllipsed records established on Gemini, Apollo and Skylab. Yet realize it would take the Russians almost 15 years to beat us. By the time of the Apollo 11, the race was over. There was one attempt by the Russians to make a moon shot of orbiting the moon in Mid-1968. That prompted NASA to go for Apollo 8, and the Christmas flight of Frank Borman, Bill Anders, and Jim Lovell...There Genesis was read from the reaches of the moon on Christmas Eve 1968. The Russians had a few feats they made the first dashes with, but would lose in the long run of endurance. Ultimatly the moon race was not a race of politics, but of economics. We had the system in place that allowed for several contractors to come out and prove their worth. The Soviets had no such system in place and as a result lost in the innovation part. Just know that us "losing" to the Russians by the time of Apollo is an illusion conjured up by the modern media. If you want, check out the book "From the Earth to the Moon" by Andrew Chaikin. Tell me then after you read that how you feel about moon conpiracies....

umm..the jedis knew nothing of us history...they were a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. I'm surprised u didnt know that. Meanwhile, with a good telescope, you can see the LM and the rover and if you could get Nasa to turn the Hubble towards the moon, even see the flag and footprints. Its pretty remarkable for the time that we did it, and I admit the technology of the time must have been crude compared to todays sophistication (I heard that all the computers they used in Mission Control had the combined equivlent computing power of a Commodore 64), but it was well within the ability of the time.

Meanwhile, with a good telescope, you can see the LM and the rover and if you could get Nasa to turn the Hubble towards the moon, even see the flag and footprints.

I've always had one question about space travel... and more to the point... enduring the rigors of space.

I've always wondered how the ships (and astronauts) can withstand the amazing differences in temperature.
The side of the ship that faces the sun would be hundreds/thousands of degrees hotter than the opposite side of the ship. The side that's in-shade would be hundreds/thousands of degrees cooler than the side that faces the sun.

I've often wondered exactly how the earthly ships, made with earthly materials, built with only human engineering (and 1950/60ies technology) were able to withstand such extremes in temperature. Keeping in mind that two halves of one vessel would be enduring those temperature extremes many many many times in the same voyage.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist. And I tend to laugh at those that are, in fact, believers of major conspiracies but, in this case.... I think it's a fair question. Metal is metal. It reacts the way it's going to react regardless of it's "mission".

I know we've been to deep space many many times but, this thing with the metal always intrigues me.

I've been a NASA engineer for 25 years and I find it impossible to believe that a very large group of introverted engineers (no matter how smart) could pull off a conspiracy of that size given the public awareness and social intricacies involved (not NASA strengths). While I have nothing more to offer than my opinion (I watched the landing with my elementary school classmates), I have worked directly with engineers involved with the landing and I find the landing evidence a lot more believable than any supporting the conspiracy. Like the slogan I borrowed some time back... at NASA we make tough problems easy and vice versa. I believe they were capable of pulling off the landing and not able to pull off the conspiracy. :bye:

There you have it. Soon we will have photos showing the remains of the Apollo Lunar Modules, also known as LEM (Lunar Excursion Module.) Built by Grumman Aircraft Engineering, the Lunar Module was 20.9-foot tall, with a 14 feet diameter and a landing gear span of 29.75 feet.

However, the Lunar Reconnoissance Orbiter will only be able to take photos of what is known as the Descent Stage, the bottom part of the LEM that housed the main propulsion system. This part was left on the Moon's surface, while the Ascent Stage launched after each mission to rendezvous with the Command Module orbiting around the Moon.

Other remains left on the Moon include the Lunar Roving Vehicles, used in the Apollo J-class missions: Apollo 15, Apollo 16, and Apollo 17. Since they are 3-meter long, the LRO will be able to distinguish them as well.
