George W. Bush should have been Man of the Year, this year and last, but the liberal media can't bear to admit that.
He not only rallied the country post 9/11, he was responsible for the Republican Party recapturing the Senate and adding to their lead in the House in an off-year election, something that hasn't been done in 50 years or so.
Time, ya blew it again. But you know that.

I can't believe people still believe in this "liberal media" thing. I guess if people say it enough it will become true.
Good for Time. Those women might have made a lasting impact on the future of this country... for the better.

So you mean to tell me that Rudy Giuliani did not deserve Man of the Year last year as much as George W Bush did? I will have to disagree with you, even though I am one of the people who thinks the media is generally liberal.
My choice for Person of the Year would have been Hamid Karzai.

You don't consider The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time and Newsweek, 4 of the biggest media outlets in this country to be liberal?

At this point, it's ignorant to view the media as unbiased.
Unless you're someone like Bill Clinton, who a few weeks back gave a hilarious speech blasting the VAST RIGHT-WING MEDIA (not to be confused with the VAST RIGHT-WING CONSPIRACY~!, although sure to be a part of it!) for costing the Dems the elections this past November. Hmm, I kind of thought it was more to the Dems being unable to relate well with the voting public, but what do I know?
C'mon. If you're arguing that the vast majority of political talk shows ON THE RADIO are conservative....then you'd have a pretty strong argument there. That form of media is largely conservative (but I've always felt they were tempered by the usually liberal "shock-jock" programs...).
As for everything else - be honest, the majority of the rest of the media, from network TV to print, is AT LEAST sympathetic to the left, if not outright outspokenly liberal (e.g. the Washington Post).
Therefore, it is reasonable to infer that U.S. media = predominantly liberal / left-wing.

It is very interesting how both liberals and conservative view the mass media as biased against their respective belief systems. I have heard many left wing commentators berate the NY Times for its pro-corporate position (e.g. coverage of protest in Seattle).

If the "media" were as liberally-skewed as many say, why were both Clinton (in and post-office) and Gore (during the '00 election) savaged as much as they were? I think each outlet, TV or print, has plenty of pundits that are obviously for one politcal party or the other, but the idea that one "side" gets better treatment overall is absurd. If there's one thing the media loves most of all it's making fun of stupid people, and both conservatives and liberals are just packed with them, too many to just be ignored. Seems pretty fair to me.

<font color=purple>No more so than I consider the Wall Street Journal, the Fox <i>News</i> Network and almost all of talk radio to be conservative.
And although I think he's been a poor president, I agree that Person Of The Year should've went to Bush.... and last year's to Bin Laden.
It's not suppose to be a popularity contest, and it's too bad Time doesn't have the balls to follow their own guidelines when it comes to this.

Why would Bush even be in consideration?
He's stupid, ignorant, anti-intellectual and racially and culturally unsensitive.
He's made a few speeches (using monosylabic words when possible and even screwing up their pronunciation) but accomplished nothing.
He's proven to be a person who is incapable of doing what needs to be done. He has no comprehension of what military intervention means.
He's proven his hypocracy by allying the US with the Saudi's - the biggest terrorist nation on the planet. (And by ignoring the North Korean nukes).
He's ineffectual, inarticulate, impotent and a fool. He's a terrible refelction on America.
The women of Enron was a suitable choice, showing that in the face of rampant anti-feminism, in a corporate world where the glass ceiling is far to low, there exist women of courage and honesty who can do what needs to be done. Bush could sure learn a lesson from these women.

Excelent point. I'd just like to add that the media loves to see smart people do stupid things, and the rich and famous topple due to their stupidity. <P>

The man is a Yale graduate and is the first President to have an MBA (Harvard). He also is a former fighter pilot. I'm pretty sure you have to be kind of smart to do be able to fly a jet.
Also, Bush was smart enough (and humble) to surround himself with talented men and women of different ethnic backgrounds. He has a pretty diverse cabinet and group of advisors compared to previous administrations.
He's proven to be a person who is incapable of doing what needs to be done. He has no comprehension of what military intervention means.
What does it mean: launching Tomahawks at random targets that turn out to be nothing? Sending troops on peacekeeping deployments with no endgame?
He's proven his hypocracy by allying the US with the Saudi's - the biggest terrorist nation on the planet. (And by ignoring the North Korean nukes).
We've been allied with Saudi Arabia since World War II. While we can debate whether this is a good ally to have, Bush is hardly the first President to have been maintain friendly relations with questionable regimes -- and he won't be the last. Unfortunately, the U.S. has a history of short-sightedness in international relations.
Umm...the North Korean nuclear program didn't begin on 20 Jan 2001. I seem to recall the previous administration (and a former President) took credit for brokering a deal to help the North Koreans build nuclear reactors so that they wouldn't pursue a nuclear weapons program.
He's...impotent...
Well he did father twin daughters. :)
