i have a sneaking suspicion that this has been a topic before, but the search isn't working, and i'm sure there are a lot of new members that have joined up since it was active anyway. so... what were the best shows you've been to?

my top ten...

1-5: bright eyes. i've seen them 5 times, and each time was just unbelievably good. they are my favorite band ever, and they never, ever disappoint. this really should have been 1-6, but i got sick the last time i went to see them, and i had to leave early before they played

6-7: radiohead at liberty state park... two incredible nights or radiohead outside in late august... can't get much better than that

8: elliott smith at the beacon theater. although i've seen elliott play about 5 times, this was the best... possibly because i was sitting 6th row center, or because he did a cover of "don't fear the reaper"

9: vast at irving plaza. unreal... there was just so much enegry, and jon crosby has one of the most amazing voices ever

10: desaparecidos at maxwells. the other two times i saw them were great, too, but this was right before the album came out, there was a pretty small crowd, and they weren't even headlining. i was right up at the stage, and i actually met conor oberst before the show... truly a great night

Some of you buddies have never heard of Sly and the Family Stone, but I remember back in 1971 going to MSG, the place was rockin so hard I could feel the tier moving up and down.

Best show I ever went to...December 1975...Seton Hall University... Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band...that's when he was the Boss. I used to love his stories before each song. He is the best entertainer I've ever seen live.

I've seen a lot of live shows...worst was Bob Dylan...couldn't understand one word he sang.

6-7: radiohead at liberty state park... two incredible nights or radiohead outside in late august... can't get much better than that

I went to the second night, and I'd have to pick that as the best concert I've been to. Probably the only concert I've been to where I didn't want it to end (and that was after 4 encores!)

Ok I have a few to add to the list:

5. Woodstock '94, one of the first times I was thrown into a potporii of soo many badns at once. Great time, but bands had a funky weird vibe to them...

4. Lalapalooza '92- Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Chilli Peppers, Jesus and Mary Chain, Ministry, etc...rocked the place. Was such a good atmosphere to see show, was when freak show was a freak show. Great bands on 2nd stage, sooo forth...

3. Guns/Metallica '92- What an awsome show...Metallica blew the fucking roof off Gianst stadium. I got into "Snake Pit", and am not going to fabricate any stories of me kicking ass...got my ass kicked in there, but wa such a great time doing so at same time. Guns N Roses performance is what made this into a number three instead of a number one...they stunk that night live. No where near Metallica...Faith No More were pretty good that night as well

2. Woodstock '99- I got into this one for free through a friend who lived up that way. What a great time, and a sooooooooooooooo much different atmosphere from '94. Bands sooooooo rocked especially the WHOLE saturday showcase. From Wycleff Jon to Metallica, everything kicked on Main stage. 2nd stages fucking rocked too...I was soooooooooooooooo spent by the end of Saturday's show I never really made it through all of Sunday's. Memorable performances from KORN, especially with "Got the Life" which should have of caused bedlam then and there. Other great performances that Friday show: Sheryl Crow, Live. Two people who surprised me so much...the whole fucking woodstock rocked. A shame if anyone missed this one...

1. Metallica "Shit in the sheds tour '94"- This played all over country, I saw this at a place called Middletown Fairground in Orange County, NY. Fucking great show all around!!! Great Trio of bands: Metallica, Suicidal Tendencies, and Danzig. Suicidal rocked, Danzig blew roof off place...Metallica was in there pre-load phase and fucking LIT the place up. I can not empasize here howwwww much they blew the roof off of the place. There is another board member who went to same show as me and knows what the fuck I am talking about when I say this. I can not add enough exclamation points to how much they fucking rocked at this concert. Possibly there best EVER!!!! And I have seen Metallica 6 times in my life at varying stages from Burton to present...Best show EVER!!!!!

man, i will have fun with this one...

i will do it later when i wake up... SEEING HOW i just came home from a show(blood for blood), which ended in a huge 30 man brawl... it was to funny...

and no, i was not involved. i have grown up and i do not get involved in other people's battles anymore.

drove 2+ hours to only see 3 songs... screw that S. seriously. i get there, blood for blood was already on, they played 3 songs... and some dumb knuckleheads go and ruin it.

but ya, later on, when i have my senses collected, i will write my best shows... it will be a very detailed and long list.

i know off the top of my head about 5 people on this board that will know the bands i will mention.

NYHC!

my favorite was Palooza 92. i was really into music at the time and the bands at the show were awesome and the event seemed so big to me at the time. it was one of my first concerts.

The Horde fest a few years later was cool also. More for the drugs i did than the music though. as i can't remember much about the bands.

I like any event I went to at the SPAC in Saratoga. if not i just went and gambled at the track.

I would have to say Garth Brooks in Central Park...nothing like a free concert on a nice summer day with over 850,000 people in the park and closing off i think was 5th avenue cause of overflow

Butthole Surfers at the Ritz. Trippy psychedelic show with great sound. 2 huge screens showing everything from Felix the cat cartoons(upsidedown) to sex change operations, to pretty babies with flowers...I was on mushrooms and made out with a beautiful oriental girl by the stage. Afterward when I was feeling sick I found a hole under the stage to puke into so noone could see me. Good times!

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Beck at the old Capital Center in 1990. Stevie joined Jeff for an encore of Beck's "I'm Going Down": some of the best guitar-dueling I've ever heard or seen. Sadly, Stevie was killed a few days later.
