i was Christmas shopping with my daughters at the Freehold Mall and we were in the Pacific Sun store. I happened to witness two people, male and female in their 30's or 40's, putting a hooded sweatshirt into a bag and then proceeded to walk out of the store.

My first reaction was to say HEY! but then I quickly thought "this ain't my job". I also think about the white collar crime that occurs where Executives are getting away with embezzling hundreds of thousand if not millions of dollars and "IF" they do get caught will still not see a day in jail. These two would probably suffer a worst punishment. I know two wrongs don't make a right but this is how i felt so I said nothing.

How do you feel?

Yes. Stores rarely call the cops, they just stop the people and offer to "help" them or to get a basket or cart for the merchandise they seem to have trouble carrying. The main thing is to get the merchandise back and get them out.

Finally something I like talking about. Well I am head of security at a Wholesale Club in New Jersey. I wish there were more people out there that actually would stop and look for an employee if they see someone shoplifting. Unlike some stores, if you steal anything over $25 from my store, I am sending your ass to jail. Whether they print you and you are out on bail in less than 2 hours, or you stay there for days doesn't matter to me. I take my job very seriously and most people in the Loss Prevention field do.

My favorite is actually internal theft. That makes me the most happy. So by all means come shop at BJ's Wholesale Club this holiday season. :-) :-)

nope five finger discount rocks.

I worked at a certain store to help with the opening, then I was told not to worry I was definatly staying on once the store opened. So I got the call saying I wasnt needed, so I told the discrict manger to go fuck herself. And then once the store opened I went in to get paid and my friend was working the register so I bought something for $10 but I walked out with over $200 dollars worth of stuff. :) Payback truly is a bitch.

This has been another rare post by the (greatly missed) Sweet one!

About a month or 2 I was out with a friend of mine at this mall in Jersey.I saw a shirt I liked..took it off the hanger and heldo onto it cause she was walking around looking for stuff she wanted. She saw these jeans she liked, walked into the fitting room to try them on, and came out without them. I thus went to the register, paid for the shirt I wanted. As I was waiting for my change, my associate proceeded to grab the bag and walked out with it, I thought this was a nice gesture of her carrying my bag. The alarm goes off....but the cashier thought nothing of it seeing as how I just paid for the shirt and thought it was a malfunction or something. Leaving the store and walking to her car I joked "so..what did you steal?" We get into the car...and she pulls out of her carrybag the jeans that she was looking at. SHOCKER! I honestly didnt expect that...and for some reason I really didnt expect it from her. Oh well....there really is no point to this story...just wanted to tell you all my latest shoplifting anecdote.

I was in a store a few months back looking at a game and I walked out with it in my hand. I didn't realize it until about 2 stores later that it was still in my hand. I couldn't believe that no alarm went off or nothing. I did return it to them though.

not unless there was something in it for ME. and most of the time, there isnt. i may have to pay a bit more in the long run for the stores to recover their losses, or someone might not get a part-time job there, but that may be a bit of a stretch. besides, if you dime someone out, they may HATE you forever, while the store would be grateful for just a short moment in time. that's not a good trade-off. i guess i'm saying its NOT MY PROBLEM. hire more security, create jobs, whatever the fuck.

now white-collar crime, on the other hand, i'd snitch on. when your average joe is busting his hump earning x amount of dollars, and some greedy higher-ups embezzle money, those sumbitches gotta die. their theft affects way more people, and its just cowardly. at least a shoplifter's got enough balls to take something with their hands, knowing full well someone's in the vicinity watching.

I HATE shoplifters. I don't even see what crosses the mind of ANY thief. It never occurs to me to take something that isn't mine. How do they sleep at night?

i never feel bad or tell if i steal or see someone stealing from some big corporation like Shell or Nike, but if its some privately owned mom and pop shop i would say something and stop them

Normally, I'd tell (big surprise?), but if i ever see Winona Ryder shoplifting, I'm sure we'd be able to work something out.
