Most people know that I'm a pretty liberal person, and, as comes with the territory, I'm not exactly a huge fan of or current president, George W. Bush. What people don't understand is why us liberals find so much pleasure in poking fun at the guy. As an early Christmas present this year I received not one, but TWO books full of things that President George W. Bush has actually said, now to the republicans out there remember two things when you read this:

1) This is all in good fun, and not meant to really attack Bush.

The White House vandalism story is completely false and is an example of how gossip can snowball into the "truth".

Sean Hannity (1/26/01):
"Look, we've had these reports, very disturbing reports -- and I have actually spoken to people that have confirmed a lot of the reports -- about the trashing of the White House. Pornographic materials left in the printers. They cut the phone lines. Lewd and crude messages on phone machines. Stripping of anything that was not bolted down on Air Force One. $200,000 in furniture taken out."

Brit Hume (1/25/01): "By the way, the reported vandalism in those White House offices now includes power and phone cords cut... trash dumped on floors, desk drawers emptied onto floors, pornographic pictures left in computer printers, scatological messages left on voice mail, and cabinets and drawers glued shut. And the Washington Times reports that the presidential 747 that flew Bill and Hillary Clinton to New York on inauguration day was stripped bare."

Sounds outrageous, right? Well actually it NEVER happened!

On Special Report with Brit Hume," which aired a brief report on the General Services Adminstration's findings (5/18/01) guest anchor Tony Snow said: "Remember those accusations in the media that outgoing Clinton administration staffers trashed the White House when they left? Well, now the General Services Administration says the stories weren't true..."

Snow on Fox News Sunday: (5/20/01) "the ex-president's pals have a legitimate beef.... If there's a moral here, it's that we need to correct ourselves clearly to reassure one and all that we care about getting things right and, when possible, setting them right."

The White House vandalism story is completely false. Just wanted to set the record straight.

Conclusions

Damage, theft, vandalism, and pranks occurred in the White House
complex during the 2001 presidential transition. Incidents such as the
removal of keys from computer keyboards; the theft of various items; the
leaving of certain voice mail messages, signs, and written messages; and
the placing of glue on desk drawers clearly were intentional acts. However,
it was unknown whether other observations, such as broken furniture,
were the result of intentional acts, when and how they occurred, or who
may have been responsible for them. Further, with regard to stolen items,
such as the presidential seal, because no one witnessed the thefts and
many people were in the White House complex during the transition, it was
not known who was responsible for taking them. Moreover, regarding
other items reported missing, such as doorknobs, cellular telephones, and
television remote controls, it was unknown whether all of them were
thefts, and if they were, who was responsible for taking those items and
when they were taken. Further complicating our attempt to determine the
amount of damage that may have occurred was the lack of documentation
directly corroborating some observations and our inability to reconcile
certain observations only a few hours apart in locations where some people
saw damage, vandalism, or pranks and where others saw none.
