My staff stiffed me on an Xmas gift, again

Ok, I'm not that hung up on the fact that my staff at work blew me off again, but make a little effort, people. I always pick a little something up for them. This year the women got a Bath & Body Work gift set and the guys got stainless steel travel mugs. Not much but it's the thought, right?

Only two people made the effort: a guy who was probably guilted by last year's omission and the newest, lowest paid, former welfare mom. For God's sake, each throw in a buck and buy me a bottle of merlot!

They are contantly telling me that I am by far the best leader they have ever had. I am fair, go to bat for them regularly with management and basically don't fuck with them.

Am I over-reacting or am I be presumptuous that one should acknowledge their boss during the holidays? Thanks for allowing me to vent.

Get used to it, my staff this year chipped in and got me... a sweatshirt. Not that i'm complaining mind you, jsut get used to the fact that they aren't going to spend a lot on the boss.

I agree flipper, I know I've heard it before that it's actually bad business etiquette to give your boss a gift. Though I always have anyway. My main reason...if I didn't, and then I saw the rest of the supervisors and his fellow managers all gave him something...I'd be the a-hole. So, I spend a few bucks. No big deal.

If you're in charge of who gets whatever kind of raise, you can fun when their time comes due. Revenge is always sweet.

I was always told that if people work all year around for their boss, it's inappropriate to buy them a gift.
