OK, so I'm out putting applications and my resume out to local businesses for a job.

And it has become clear to me that a company like Comp USA and Home Depot doesn't really give a shit about you anymore.

I went to like 10-15 businesses like these over the past few days, and many of them are computer based now. You don't even get to explain yourself to a person or drop off a resume. The only time you'll get to talk to them is if the computer or some person in a office hub for a company deem your application worthy of a call back.

And then there ws Toys R Us. I only went there to say I went to every possible kind of job for employment. And they didn't even ask for my previous employers! They asked the usual name, addres, SS#, ifI'd been convicted, and that was about it. Nothing else to distiguish ME from some fucking RETARD. So I guess the put applications in a big hat and Geffory pulls out the lucky winner. Not that my life hinges on a job at Toys R Us, but hey, it's the pricipal of it all. Oh yea, they didn't care about my education background either.

So has what a company can expect from an employee sunk SO LOW that they don't even bother to ask for certian questions anymore? Is it just important to have a BODY there? Is the work force in our country so useless that they don't even care anymore?

And on a side note, anyone with a decent job in Northwest Jersey, please E-mail me! (shameless)

Let me present the other end of this little scenario. I run a bookstore, and this time of year, I get dozens of applications each week. I have a limited amount of hours I can "give" to new hires, so obviously I can't hire everyone. And NOTHING means shit until the actual interview. Any meeting before that will just be dismissed as bullshit.

And why ask for the manager when dropping off the application? If it's a properly written application, all necessary questions AT THE TIME are answered on it. Any other info is being purposely withheld until the actual interview because it doesn't apply to you unless you're going to get the job. Only then, IF the applicant seems good enough, can you start discussing things like salary.

At the time of the application, all that is needed is to know when you are available, what your employment history is, your criminal record, your education, your office skills, and whether it's legal for you to actually work for me. Anything else is only important and necessary if you meet those intial requirements.

Now at my store, you can drop off your application with my employees. They are trained to answer practically any normal question an applicant may have, so do NOT ask for the manager. If I'm at work, I'm there WORKING. The worst thing you can do is get me paged while I've got a 75 pound box in my hand, or I'm delaing with an irate customer, and I have to rush over just to find some random schmuck off the street waiting to take up my time with questions any one of my employees could have answered. Never think asking to speak to the boss or manager will make a good impression, because it only distracts us from our job, and pisses us off.

If you're qualified to work, it'll be crystal clear on the application.

Of course, if people don't sign their application at the bottom of the second page, that's my cue to just toss it out. Why am I going to hire you if you can't read even take the time to read a two page form? Feh.

Oh I understand that Mojo. My only problem is with the some of the HORRIBLY incomplete forms I've been given. They just want to know your name, SS# and if you've been convicted.

Maybe my problem is that these are jobs that require ABSOLUTLY NO skills, and therefore I don't want. I don't know, it just seems all so impersonal now, and I don't feel that they ask for enough info to make me sound better than some other guy. I WANT them to remember me a little. And lots of people didn't even know what to do with my resume. Some said the don't even take them.

Is my problem that I went to a few retard companies that honestly don't want thinking employees? It's a little scary.

And WHERE THE FUCK is my copy of The Necronomicon I prepaid for 3 MONTHS AGO Mr Manager Fag?!?!

Oh, uh, what? Uhm, it's not like I flagged you to the FBI or anything. And I said you ordered 80 copies of "The Turner Diaries", just for good measure.

Yeah.

Sorry about that.

...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Big Companies No Longer care about the quality of their applicants

Fuckin' A Moe. Goddamned right. I used work at a daycare and most of the newer hires didn't seem to give a flying fuck about the quality of work they performed, nor the quality of the education they gave to to the children. The company didn't care as long as there was a body to fill the space when needed. Goddamned shameful.

when you say big companies you should specify more to big commercial companies. Because i work for boeing as an engineer and they dont just hire anyone, nor does IBM, Microsoft, etc. etc.
However companies that have a revolving door because employees quit and new ones fill it dont really care because they knew that if they could train a monkey to do the job they would. Try to find a job with a company that is going somewhere or that you can move up in. The bottom line is the places you applied at dont instill pride or work ethic or training because it is wasted when the holidays are over or the college kids go back to school. You need to find somewhere better, and if you really care about getting a job call those places ask for a manager and ask the status of your resume this will distinguish you from the rest of the pack because they at least know your name and that you are serious about employment. Just make the call during non peak hours like from 10-11 or 1-3 it should help

If you're submitting resumes around the holiday season, you're probably talking to the part-time "body" that they hired to help with the holiday rush. These people know that they are only there in the short term, and are probably only interested in making a couple bucks extra to buy mom and dad a present.

On top of that, managers may be thinking that you're one of those people looking for a temporary position during the holidays, such as being between college terms, or somesuch.

I think after the holidays are over, and schools are starting up again, you'll see a change in attitude with the companies.

Moe, you are selling yourself way short. I see you as the founder of your own company, Bacon R Us, or maybe the head of a network like The Bacon Channel.

What are your qualifications, and what type of job would you ideally want? I used to be a recruiter for a temp agency, you might want to try temping at a large corporation in an office/mailroom type position. Thats how I got my job, by temping first.

I could put a good word in for ya, but I don't know if you want to work in Westchester.
