View Full Version : The New 9 WTC designs
Have you seen these models? Hones;ty what the fuck are the architechts thinking? More like what the hell are they smoking? I did leave two out becuase I had no commnet cause they pretty much had nothing, and you couldnt tell how big the tower(s) were.Heres what I think of some of them:
<img src=http://nypost.com/photos/wtcdesigns/02th.jpg>
Whatn the hell is this and are the actual buldings inside those metal frames?
<img src=http://nypost.com/photos/wtcdesigns/03th.jpg>
Hey look its a giant game of tic-tac-toe! Im X and you'll be O!
<img src=http://nypost.com/photos/wtcdesigns/04th.jpg>
I dont even know what to say about this one. It looks like a giant Middle finger to me.
<img src=http://nypost.com/photos/wtcdesigns/05th.jpg>
Whos the genius who thought up this idea? Its all twisty and shit and just looks odd to me.
<img src=http://nypost.com/photos/wtcdesigns/06th.jpg>
This actually looks decent. four towers not side by side by still it looks nicer than the others. The only thing I dont like is the giant stick next to the tower on the left. Just looks a little funky.
<img src=http://nypost.com/photos/wtcdesigns/07th.jpg>
No complaints here, looks very normal, nothing to futuristic, nice and modern.
<img src=http://nypost.com/photos/wtcdesigns/08th.jpg>
PERFECT. Plain, simple I say go with this plan.
Now I cant wait to hear in a month that all of these plans have been rejected and they are now in the works of designing 9 more plans!

All the designs look odd,for that space.But if I had to choose,it would be the last design.

...don't just judge on appearance...consider how the designs intergrate the requirements with the concept behind the design...
.... Thus far, I enjoy Daniel Libeskind's design. Along with a memorial, it includes a musuem (can't have a Libeskind design without one), and the world's tallest building that would house what he calls the "Gardens of the World". What I like is that he developed the site so that between the 8:46 am and 10:28 am on every September 11th, sunlight would shine without shadow upon the area of the memorial. I felt that Libeskind was the guy who could pull off a good design for the site, and unless I see something in one of the other designs after further study, I think his is the one that should be developed. The designs are gonna be on display at the Winter Garden starting this Friday, and I'll be heading there a lil bit after Christmas with one of my architecture buddies so that we can check them out up close.

Those first few look like the first stages of the long-awaited "Voltron" construction project, AND IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME.
I like the idea of four buildings like the Towers, just each half the size, with a simple memorial (a la the Vietnam Wall, the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier or Kennedy' Eternal Flame) in the middle.

I say they make 4 new 50 storie buildings. They look exactly the same as the other ones. In the middle they put a Sept. 11 memorial

Actually, those are hollow structures that are an actual monument to The WTC. The "brace" that connects them represent where the planes hit.
I quite like it.

Thus far, I enjoy Daniel Libeskind's design.
Yeah, the sunlight effect is really a big selling point for me.
My $0.02 - I love the new designs because they're tall! My biggest fear with the falling of the towers was that this would have been the event that ended the Age of the Skyscraper. So, I hated the first designs with their cowardly small towers.
I really want them to build the tallest buildings in the world. We should take the title back from Kuala Lampur!

with the exception of the last 2, these new designs are absurd. a lot of them are more form than function, and i dont think that'll benefit lower manhattan and the city.
the next to last one really fits the bill, IMO. 2 spires and what looks like a memorial in-between. its elegant and subtle, unlike the monstrosities above it. did people go to school for that?

First, I want nothing less than the world's tallest building. EVERY proposal should have that. I would prefer that it is like the CN Tower or Space Needle. After that, my priority is the memorial. Wherever you go in the site, you should be able to experience the memorial. I like the river concept. Finally, not only replace the 50,000 jobs, but expand beyond 50,000. The office space should also be experimental in its architecture. I would be content with designs 2, 3, 4, or 5 being built. I like the giant stick in #5.

<img src="http://tseery.homestead.com/files/odd.gif" width=300 height=100>
Thanks dcpete!
Relax a little. Here is what you can expect: Whatever is built, it will be the tallest in the world. And, it will be forward looking in its design. Please keep in mind that not everyone is going to be happy with the final result.
Remember, a majority of New Yorkers did not like the two towers of the trade center when they where first erected.

The one they showed on the page from FuzzyButt's link was the one that was useless. Yes, I am in favor of a memorial, but I dont like that it takes up the most space, and cannot be used (just a metal frame).
Relax a little. Here is what you can expect: Whatever is built, it will be the tallest in the world. I am in favor of the tower(s) to be the tallest in the world, but not everyone feels that way. Some people think that it should be 4 buildings, like 2 split in half.

Whatever is built, it will be the tallest in the world.
Until that is, weeks or months later work is finished on a taller one. It always happens.
The biggest problem will be finding prospective tenants for the new building(s). Many of those I know who worked in the WTC towers are not exactly "in a rush" to return to such a location.
As for a memorial I will always carry with me the heart-breaking image of the boards covered with the "Missing" posters in my heart until I die.

... To simply rebuild the towers would be to act like nothing ever happened, and that life should return to the way it was... which is an insult to the people who died and to the people who were affected by theis tragedy... the building must be in response to Sept. 11th... terrorism never wins when we can overcome and move ahead....
