View Full Version : Worse for Democrats, Joe Lieberman or Ralph Nader?

My money is on Joe, if he's serious about running for President. Let's face it: the man will NOT win in the middle states. The second them rural "folks" realize he's Jewish, his chance of getting those votes are shot. A sad state of affairs, but let's be realistic here. At least Nader was running as a candidate from a seperate party. Lieberman will help splinter the already pathetic Democratic party even further.
Christ, the Democratic presidential line-up is so awful anyways, it's almost better if he destroys them. It's so sad.

You know it's slim pickins when Al Sharpton's name is being brought up as a ''serious'' prospect.
Of the two mentioned, I'd personally choose Lieberman (Nader's always rubbed me the wrong way), but unless Bush majorly fucks up, he's got that second term in the bag.

The sad part is, if the Democrats could put up just one or two really strong (Or at least they appear that way) leaders, they could easily take the White House back. The economy isn't going to pick up for a few years, the "war on terrorism" is going to go too slowly for the public's taste, and with the Republicans essentially controlling everything, they'll take all the blame. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOO...'tards.

Where is our new Bill Clinton to lead us Democrats out of the wilderness? :(

His name is Hillary.
Lieberman would be a much better candidate than Nader. However, Governors have traditionally done better than Senators (current or former).

I voted for Nader and will continue to vote for Nader until the democrats get their asses in gear and give the American people a freakin Platform. Nader has had a long history of standing up for the american people, and his running mate, Winona Laduke, is simply brilliant. These are people that i want running the government.

Lieberman is worse for the Democrats simply because he is a weak candidate. He is very conservative (attributing decline of the youth to Marilyn Manson) and just plain boring. I am not at all worried about the Democrats in terms of future leadership. For those of you who love politics look no further than Evan Bayh of Indiana or John Edwards. These are two young, intelligent, and very charasmatic politicians who have the potential to go very far. Bill Clinton was a political nobody during a period when the Bush I was very popular. I agree with DarkHippie about Nader. In terms of many issues he is very cool. I've seen him speak 4 times and am very impressed with who he is and what he has done. I'm unsure though if I would vote for him again...

Another possible choice for the Democrats would be Martin O'Malley, the Mayor of Baltimore. He's young, charismatic, full of great ideas, and has absolutely revitalized what was one basically a giant clusterfuck of a city.

I think nealcassady has it right on Lieberman, he's too conservative for liberals to bring liberals back to the democratic party. But if his strategy is to win the middle-ground he's forgetting the fact that he's Jewish, which will cost him some of the conservative democratic and swing votes and guaranteed black votes, and the fact that he's Elmer Fudd. The Fudd factor is his biggest liability because while this "war on terrorism" is going on people will picture him as Commander in Chief and think "I'm hunting tewwowists. Uhuhuhuhuhuhhhh!" He'll never make the democratic nomination.

Hey, so did I. I campaigned long and hard down the very last minute for Nader, even suffering the verbal assaults of quite a few Gore supporters as I held my ground outside the polling stations. But I'm just saying "worse" in terms of costing Democrats votes in the presidential election. I think it was a GOOD thing Nader took away the more liberal Democrats, because maybe it'll someday bitchslap the party into representing some of its former ideals again. But Lieberman running is detrimental because he has no chance of winning, and he's more of a centrist than Clinton was. Ugh.
And great call on O'Malley, Hippie. He kind of gets overshadowed by Rudy in terms of "cleaning up" his city, but I think the platforms and programs he established have for more stability than what Rudy did for NYC.

Every time I'm watching the Baltimore Ravens on TV and I see that "Believe" bilboard on the sidelines, I get all misty eyed. The "Believe" campaign is proof that people can make a difference in their own city. O'Malley combined democratic ideals with no-nonsense law enforcement. The only problem is that not many people know who he is.

Howard Dean, baby. Vermont governor; fiscal conservative, social liberal. Wants universal health care (he's a doctor) but is also loved by the gun nuts. Get on board now!

ed. note: Even if he doesn't win (& it isn't likely he will) you can be the I-told-you-so guy when the winner fucks up!

Nader doesnt look serious about running. He's all talk and really no action to back him up. He really dresses like he's working a regular job and has no pride in his appearance. I really think that we should nix the 2-party system and bring back really political parties & beliefs like Communism & Socialism.

Actually, it doesnt matter anyway because all forms of government either have failed or will fail because someone is always is always in power and someone feels the power is misused and makes change.

an ultra left wing nutcase?
wait a second, Nader isn't some shlep off the street. for 30 something years we've known who he was because of his work as a consumer advocate. And the Green party platform isn't far-fetched at all. Its slightly to the left of where the democrats should be if they weren't catering to the moderates like pandering bitches instead of believing in their ideals.

As far as I'm concerned, the Green party is the new democratic party, and the democrats are just lite-republicans. When the democrats start showing some loyalty to their beliefs, I'll show some loyalty to them
