R/F net peeps,

Who here would be up for a NYC listners vs. DC listeners friendly contest in the future? The board has had many get togethers and by no means is this official, but what ideas are out there and I would assume we'd have to meet in the middle somewhere, say R/F market #3, Philadelphia. Very early ideas here of course, but how cool would a softball game or beer olympics at the Marriott Philadelphia be?

Ideas?

it was suggested earlier that we do a basketball game...one game in N.Y. one game in D.C. and then after we in D.C. win 2-0 there will be no need for a game 3. Then afterwards everyone gets hammered

If it's anything other than basketball, I'm in. I've got the vertical leap of a dumptruck, so hoops is not my thing. But I think a friendly game of some kind is definitely a good idea.

...silent, but violent.

The Chairman is in but I would prefer drinking games, bar crawls or poetry slams.

Philly sounds good. Morimoto for sushi and a South Street bar crawl followed by Pat's Cheese steaks sounds like a plan.

The "Beer Olympics 2003" could work.

Events:

Flip Cups (Team)
Quarters
Ice Cube Tray Races
Darts
Keg Stands (timed)
*BEER PONG (team and individual)
Fooseball (if available)

* denotes main event

Any others?

And Kaga...what the hell is slam poetry?

And Kaga...what the hell is slam poetry?

Kaga likes Beer Games. Kaga is good at drinking games. When Kaga goes back to his college fraternity he still kicks ass in Beer Die and Beirut. Kaga is starting to refer to himself in the third person. That is not good so I will try to stop.

A Poetry Slam is this thing where you go to like a small hip bar or coffee shop and people who mostly look like they came out of some Gap ad or play for The Strokes or are Moby's twin brother do an open mike spoken word type thing where they rant, usually extemporaneously. It's an impromptu form of poetry kind of like when they play chess but with the timer.

I went to a poetry slam once and there were all these hipsters there and they were all spewing liberal commie rhetoric angry at the world like you had Zach De La Rocha up there but instead of hearing a hybridized rap/singing it was just spoken word.

Now like I went to see Henry Rollins once do a spoken word and although I prefer him singing in his band, he was cool and it was like a poetry slam.

I like traditional poetry though. My favorite poets are John Ashbery, WH Auden and Wallace Stevens. But they don't (or didn't) slam.

"I am so WASTED."
Henry Rollins

I knew we should have stopped back there
by the pudding station
but the pudding people were so-well-
full of themselves.

The Sphinx didn't want us to come this far
even though we answered her questions
and threw in a bonus answer: "As honey is to the jaguar."

And we so well all along too-

Coming up is the world's longest single cantilever span.
I am numb with thrips.

John Ashbery

with so many events that R&F do involving drinking why not do an event where we get physical activity and then drink. I mean i know you guys will lose to D.C. in basketball but come on give us a challenge in something...D.C. does consume the third most alchol per person in the U.S.
