View Full Version : Most Cringeable Christmas Song
Are there any holiday songs out there that absolutely make you cringe and writhe when you hear them?
For me its that awful, awful song "Last christmas I gave you my heart, but the very next day you gave it away." Yet for some weird reason I always have to listen to it to remind myself how much it sucks.

The song about the dying mom and the little boy wanting to buy her shoes, so she would look nice when she got to heaven. Revolting.
The song is "Christmas Shoes."
How is this song revolting? I think it is a very sweet song about a lil kid trying to do something nice for his dying mother. Have you ever really heard the words?
...
The songs that make me cringe the most are two songs I've heard recently on Z100 in New York: the song about farting on Santa Clause and the one about the angel getting his ass stuck up a Christmas tree. Awful.

"Happy Christmas/War Is Over" by John Lennon (and Yoko Ono)?
I think Melissa Etheridge did a version of that a couple of years ago.

I actually like that George Michael song and the Waitresses song as well. We have a tape that plays over and over at work. The ones that get me are the ones that sound like bad lounge music or game show themes.

Worst of all is Paul McCartney's "Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time". Ugh.
Never heard the McCartney version, but that's an awful song and the first one I thought of in the realm of bad xmas songs, I'd say second (for me) is "We need a little Christmas.." awful.

that Band Aid song, I forget what the name is"Do They Know It's Christmas".
Problems with that song:
A. "The only water flowing is a bitter stream of tears"... It doesn't snow in that area of the world, and doesn't rain much at all. If water is scarce there, move on and find some. Like the Indians followed the herd...
B. "Do they know it's Christmas?" Christmas is a primarily Christian holiday. Somehow I don't believe that Ethiopia is a hub of Christian activity...

Well, if you want to be accurate, Christ's death and resurrection are just a wee bit more important and influential to the Christian belief system. And besides, don't kid yourself. Xmas is all about Santa. Go flog your Jesus crap to someone who cares, nerd.

I'm bumping this for two reasons,
First, I don't want to get yelled at as a newbie who doesn't search threads before starting a new one.
Second, Elton John's " Step Into Christmas" was on the other day and I wanted to drive in a ditch.
"Step Into Christmas"??? What the hell does that even mean?
