David Foster Wallace, the inaugural Roy Edward Disney Professor in Creative Writing, teaches Selected Obscure/Eclectic Fictions for Writers and Advanced Creative Writing: Fiction. Professor Wallace is the author of the critically acclaimed Infinite Jest (1996), Brief Interviews with Hideous Men (1999), A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do I'll Never Do Again: Essays and Arguments (1997), and other short fiction as well as nonfiction articles. He is also a regular contributor to Harper's Magazine. A recipient of a 1997 John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Award, also known as a genius grant, Professor Wallace taught previously at Illinois State University, Amherst College and Emerson College. The Disney Professorship is a tenured permanent position, which is reflective of the record of skill, imagination and teaching ability required for the position.
