I say no. Betting on baseball when you are a manager is unforgivable. And now there may be evidence he bet AGAINST the Reds, the team he managed! It completely erodes at the integrity of game by undermining the competitive nature which the sport is based. And his complete lack of regret of his actions doesnt help either.

They should allow him entry to the Hall of Fame for his playing days, but they shouldn't allow him to have any present role in baseball. How's that for splitting the baby?
The Snozberries taste like Snozberries.
I hope he gets in to the hall of fame so he will finally go away like all the other washed up old geezers. I'm sick and tired of seeing this guy on espn every couple of months. Let him in and get this over with!!!
P.S. He was one of the top two or three hitters ever! Maybe on the field accomplishments should count for something.

Pete Rose can only, in my opinion, get in the Hall of Fame if he admits he did gamble. I think the many years of saying he didn't gamble made him believe he never did such a deed.
Suck it up... admit it and open the door Cooperstown.

I 100% AGREE!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone who says Pete Rose should not, has either forgotten or is really not truly aware of how great of a baseball player he actually was.
Just a sample:
- All-time hits leader with 4,256
- All-time games leader with 3562
-led NL in batting 3 times
-regular-season MVP in 1973
-World Series MVP in 1975
-had 44-game hitting streak in '78

No doubt Rose should be in the Hall - but he should be banned from baseball forever. His forehead should be stamped: PERMANENTLY INELIGIBLE. That prick broke the biggest rule in baseball: gambling on baseball. Unforgiveable.
Pete, go back to playing the ponies. You fucking loser.
Shut up brain or I'll stab you with a Q-Tip.

Yes!
I believe his betting never affected how he played the game...
but only he knows for sure...
I think his pride is standing in the way of him actually saying he bet on baseball... He's just too embarrassed...

i agree with this 100%
Yes. The point of the Hall of Fame is to recognize achievements/talents/skills as a baseball player, not as a person.

I agree he belongs in the Hall, but not until he admits his sins as a degenerate gambler. Once he does so, he belongs in the HOF, but still should not be allowed near a job in the business unless he can prove he has overcome his gambling problems.

I am with JamesDiggy here. Pete Rose gave a LOT to the game of Baseball and he should have a place in the Hall. I don't think he should be permitted to be involved in baseball, but to NOT put such a deserving athlete into the HOF is a travesty.
On the same note, why is he banned for life, but players like Darryl Strawberry and David Justice are looked upon as ok?? THIS I will never understand. I understand there are rules against gambling on baseball...but there should be rules about assault, drug overdose, and other felonies too....am I wrong here?
Oh well. Mama always said the world is Not a fair place!

Remember, his ban has nothing to do with his personal character. Ty Cobb was a racist prick, but he's in the Hall and he belongs there. Rose should be kept out of the Hall because what he did could potentially destroy the game. Apparently he has no regard for the sport, so why should the sport have regard for him?

All those things, while heinous acts indeed, will not destroy the sport. All professional sports are predicated on one thing, that is that the outcomes of the games are not predetermined. If the public feels that is compromised in any way, the sport is dead. Any kind of addiction, save gambling, is treated in sports correctly, as a disease. Gambling, because of the way it can affect the game is also treated correctly, as a crime against the sport itself. What Pete Rose did was completely inexcusable, and since then, he has shown nought but disdain for the commissioner's office and MLB as a whole. Yes he was a tremendous player, an all-time player, but to allow him into the Hall and/or back in baseball would undermine the very heart of the sport.

I agree with JamesDiggy also. His skills were too damn good to be overlooked. The reaction he received at the World Series game where they announced the most memorable moments was incredible.

I never had a problem with Pete Rose gambling on baseball, and felt that he should not have been banned because the report said he bet only to win. But now it seems the report was vague, and that there is evidence out there he bet AGAINST his teams, and thats just wrong, and it does make him a bad person. Ban him for life, and then some.
Any arguement that what he did on the playing field only matters, not what he did off the field is wrong. He was in uniform, on the field as a manager, and made moves that may have helped his team LOSE.

Hosp that list fails to mention all the years his avg was under 300. He was a lifetime .302 hitter, with no power and was never even the best player on his own team. He should be allowed in the hall after he dies, unless he admits to gambling, then he can come back full time as coach or whatever.

Lift the fucking ban. There's alcoholics, drug abusers, racist, and criminals in the hall of fame.Every hall of fame has inductees with questionable pasts.Fact of the matter is that pete rose is the best hitter ever..at least statistically.
