For Chairman Kaga :)

Truman Show
I personally disagreed with the ending only because I loved the film so much I wanted to see how Truman would exist and interact with the real world. I understand Weir's ending, but I don't think it was the right one. I still consider it to be one of my favorite films.

Magnolia
When PunchDrunk Love was released, I had the aggravating job of explaining who Paul Thomas Anderson was to the laymen. Anyone who really loves the human condition and brilliant filmmaking should see this movie immediately...and PunchDrunk Love as well.

Little Man Tate
Fuck A Beautiful Mind...if you really want to see a film about a prodigy rent this movie. Jodie Foster plays the blue collar mother of a genius child struggling to fit in.

Door to Door
William H Macy as a door to door salesman. I bawled for ten minutes over this one. Macy is a virtuoso.

Ghost Dog; The Way of The Samurai

Forest Whitaker is downright spooky in this film about a mafia hitman who lives his life by the code of the Samurai. Very interesting flick.

The Professional
I love action flicks with that European flair...you gotta love Luc Besson...he's a weird motherfucker and so are his movies. Also a very young and very hot Natalie Portman....mmm.....

Enemy Mine
I liked this one...the story of two friends, one human, one alien, brought together by interstellar war...forced to survive together on a harsh planet...

If you like The Professional, see the original european cut "Leon" there like half an hour of extra footage that actually adds to the narrative and character development.

Sounds hot.

Things to do in Denver When You're Dead - Surprising that nobody saw this flick with so many great Christopher Walken lines. Steve Buscemi in a Stephen Segal-like fight scene. Quirky gangster flick that's kind of slow, but one of my favorites.

Ride With the Devil - Ang Lee directs one of the best Civil War movies I've ever seen. Story of the war's irregulars, "bushwhackers" and "jayhawkers", with complex characters. This is not the simplistic black and white, good vs. evil war movie that Hollywood usually turns out. It's got great action, and great performances, especially by Jewel, (surprise), and Jeffrey Wright, (Basquiat and People's Fernandez from Shaft).

Taxi Driver - A nice litte romantic comedy that's been overlooked for far too long. A regular working stiff sees the love of his life through a window and will do anything to win her heart. Madcap hillarity ensues, (John Cusack passed the role up as too "cutsie" and unrealistic), and our hero wins the girl's heart in the end.

MAGIC - before Anthony Hopkins was Hannibal. Spooky.

LOCAL HERO - with Burt Lancaster. Very dry & subtle humor.

DEEP COVER - with Larry Fishburne. It has drama, action, humor, and moments of sadness.

HOUSE OF GAMES - Unpredictable

THE KING OF COMEDY - a true classic

THE LIMEY - Must-see.

Donnie Brasco- Wasn't critically overlooked, but since it came out in February, a full 9 months before "Oscar Season" (gegege) everyone forgot about it.

Trees Lounge- Starring and directed by Steve Buscemi. Great movie no one's ever heard of.

Red Dragon- I thought it was better than Hannibal, as good as Silence, and better than Manhunter.

Cruel Intentions- Great movie that was written off because of it's "Teenybopper" cast. Hell, I was forced to see it, but I loved it. Cool dark comedy.

Van Wilder- I thought it was hilarious.

Van Wilder- I thought it was hilarious.

If you truly believe that movie was under-appreciated, then I can add "Dirty Work" and not think twice.

But don't take my word for it...Doot-Doo-Doot!!

and Jeffrey Wright, (Basquiat and People's Fernandez from Shaft).

Talk about an underrated and far too ignored actor. Anyone see him in the HBO film "Boycott"? This man is an acting treasure.

I always thought Americna Psycho was appreciated.

Anyway, my vote goes to SUICIDE KINGS!!! Christopher Walken, Jay Mohr, Denis Leary in a pure gem of a black comedy/mystery

King of New York Not as technically accomplished as Good Fellas, Casino, etc. but the acting and writing belong in the same league. Christopher Walken, Laurence Fishburne, hell, even David Caruso is good in this one! <P>

Good call! Throw in the other movie Buscemi directed "Animal Factory", a smart prison movie with Edward Furlong and Willem Dafoe, and two great, (and beautifully freaky) cameos by Mickey Rourke and Tom Arnold.

in the old school category, "Meatballs" is a great flick that holds up well over the years.

Ok I have to say one movie that isnt soooo much underrated now as it was when it first came out is The Shawshank Redemption. This movie is what we all recognize it for now, a masterpiece and we also learned because of this movie how fucked up the Oscar system is (At least I did). That a movie where a guy is retarded beats this great piece of filmaking...

"Kids" is pretty damn decent, but it doesn't represent shit.

"Gummo" was written and directed by Harmony Korine(sp? Who cares? He's a douche). He only wrote "Kids", didn't direct it. And he was the dopey kid in the club with the thick glasses passing out pills...
