Why is it that when you're 18,
you're old enough to blow a guy's
face off and die on a battlefield,
but you're not old enough to have
a Mike's Hard Lemonade?

I think the drinking age should be 18. You're legally an adult at that age and you should be allowed to act as one.

21 is a fucking dumb age to have as the legal drinking age. If I am old enough to die for this country, I wanna be able to have a beer as well.

States actually get money to keep the drinking age the way that it is. There would probably be a greater amount of returns if the drinking age is 18. That is my own theory though

This is an issue that concerned me until i turned 21. Less little punks in the bar the better. less 18 yr old girls in the bar the worse. I vote females can drink at 18

It comes down to drunk driving. The problem is not limited to teenagers, but they are a big part of it. Keeping the drinking age where it is cuts down on accidents and DWIs dramatically.

I agree. The age should be 18. I doubt that 21 yr olds are more mature than 18 yr olds. I also doubt that either age could handle their liquor any better. Also, I agree with the earlier post: If 18 yr olds can sacrifice their lives for the defense of the country, they should be allowed to attack their livers if so desired.

See Ya!

they should have drunk driving lessons in schools that way less kids would get in accidents.

you start the class with a "power" 15 minutes, shot a minute, then go out on a driving course to practice.

When I was 18, I SCREAMED about how unfair the drinking age was.

Now that i'm 21 I understand. It's not because when you're 18 you're too immature to understand drinking and driving, it's that the bar scene would be 10 times worse that what it is now. Imagine High School with liqour. Scary.

didnt some state a few years ago try to lower the drinking age and the government threatened to pull all funding on federal transportation projects on that state?

All this talk of being old enough to die for your country but not drink a beer....please, how many of you people have choose to join the military? Bitch when you come back from a combat zone and cant go to the bar!
I was lucky though...I was in Germany 6 months after my 18th birthday for 2 years and drank legally the whole time. If youre so upset about it, then join and have europe guarenteed in your contract and knock yourself out, legally.

Some people are getting the
wrong idea about this thread. I'm
not bitching at the drinking age.
I'm bitching about the
inconsistent contradictory
standards of these two laws. I
couldn't care less what the
drinking age was. I don't drink.,
period. And it has nothing to do
with legal age. The issue I'm
trying to present here is how
funny it is that the US says it's
okay to handle your life in
combat but you're not old enough
to have a wine cooler. So no
more about how 18 year olds
shouldn't be in bars and what
not. It's the issue of the elastic
moral standards of US law
between these two privledges/
rights.

over here in Holland you are allowed to buy beer when you are 16 and hard liquor when you are 18.
Ofcourse all the bars are filled with drunk 14 year olds.
I don't even go out anymore cause I would be one of the 'old people' while I'm only 19.
But for you guys, I think you should atleast be able to buy a beer when you are 18

How about drinking age at 18, but 1 DWI/DUI and you lose your license for 6 years?

A very boring one.

The distiction i'm trying to make is that High school keggers were populated with High School people, whereas if i'm going to the bar tonight, I would expect to see people old enough to handle their liqour. The drinking age at 18 would force bars to accept the entire high school in to drink, thus forcing that on me.

Not to say that every 18 year old high schooler is a screaming brat of course, but I would like to avoid the ones that I can.

It doesnt matter what the drinking age is, people do whatever they want. One of my friends is 23 and he got pulled over the oher night and he had to spend a couple hours in jail and they took his car. But since he has money he will get his car back and he wont lose his license. He has lost his license 4 times already, and he punched a cop...all he had to do was pay a couple thousand dollars and he spent 18 hours in county lock up.

This has been another rare post by the (greatly missed) Sweet one!

ok look at it this way... in the eyes of most law makers they know that kids start drinking in college at about the age of 18.. now that is 3 years under the legal age of 21.. now use that stadard of math and if the age was 18 for drinking. so that means to them that kids at age 15 would start drinking. now i know kid now a days are doing shit a lot earlier than ever but that is how law makers see it. also you can't compare the USA to other countries cause of the attitude behind drinking. In most countries drinking is just a part of life, it is meshed in with everyday life. Here in the States there are still groups who would love for drinking to outlawed again.

thanks, but I guess you didn't
read my 2nd post. I can easily
drink if I wanted to. I'm not
wishing I was 21 so I could
legally drink. I just don't drink, as
a personal choice. Once again, I
just don't get how the law thinks
you can kill and/or die at 18, but
not drink. Maybe the age to go to
war should be 21 too.

What do you guys/ladies under 21 on Friday and Saturday nights if you can't go to bars?

Here is some stupid shit:
When I was 18 (1983)
DC -- 18 for Beer - 21 for Wine and Liquor.
Va -- 19 for Beer - 21 for Liguor.
Md was 18 for Beer and 21 for Liquor.

I lived 8 miles from the district so we were always going down to drink. Once you tip a few bartenders you could get anything.

Thank you Ron and Fez for finally being live in DC again.
Philly is the next market for the boys. Wake up WYSP...
