Whenever I listen to a song, or watch a movie and turn up the volume my sound goes out and doesn't come back on unless I reboot. It used to just occur with Quicktime, but it just happened with Windows Media. Anyone have any ideas or remdies?

Have you tried taking the corn
cobs out of your ears?

He hasn't managed to get them out of his ass yet.

Actually, mine would do the same thing. I never found out why. I eventually just bought new speakers.

See?

I replied.

I'm running Win 2000, but I can't for the life of me remember what sound card I have. Uhhh, don't know how much help that was.

Edit: See, here's the problem. Alkey, because of that little scroll you got goin' on there, I don't know what's serious and what isn't. I mean did that really happen to your speakers?

How much RAM do you have and agree with Orallo - need more info about soundcard and system etc. Pop the top on your computer and look at the soundcard. Or, you could go to the control panel and look there.

Alright I got 256 RAM, does Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II sound card sound right, and the speakers are some shitty pair I bought at Circuit City for a hundred bucks.

That's a fine card and should be able to play music and show video well enough and games also. 256 system RAM is pretty low. I'm not saying that RAM is the problem but it might be. Processor speed is also a question here. How fast is the machine?

Huh. Thats a beefy enough processor. An Athlon processor of almost 2 gig with 256k of RAM. Seems like a mismatch. Just a suggestion, but you might try to upgrade your RAM. It's fairly cheap these days. Also, what player are you using. I use trusty old Winamp for sound and Windows media player for video.
Showtime in 8 minutes! Woooo!

Could be your speakers, or where the are plugged into. Do you happen to have Winamp either?

It did, my friend.

Since I know as much about computers as I do time travel, I decided to buy a new set. Mine were old so I figured they just crapped out. These guys seem to know their shit, so hopefully they'll save you from spending your hard-earned cash.

blakjeezis,

After seeing all the specs that you have been giving out, win2k, 1800Mhz, 256Mb... there is no doubt in my mind that is a driver problem, your machine is more than enough to run freaking windows media & quicktime.

1st make sure you do a windows update http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to make sure you have all the service packs from windows 2000.

2nd Go to the soundcard manufacturer and download the latest version of the drivers http://us.hercules.com/support/link_drivers.php3?prodid=39&c=1&p=0and install them.

I'm sure that will take care of the problem.

Peace & Hugs,

It was actually a combination of Hawk and Alkey. Hawk with the corn and Alkey with the placement. Strange though, it wasn't on the cob, through some kind of bowel gymnastics I had managed to thread each kernel onto some red rope licourice I ate when I was 7. Made the extraction a little easier though.

256 MB of RAM is enough for any computing needs except for very serious gamers, or CAD developers. It is more than enough to listen to music.
