I agree Doggie...I hope he doesn't become a Met. Why would the Braves get rid of him? I would have prefered a younger arm, but..... <P>

Unfortunatly I don't think the METS have enough quality to trade for Colon.. The Yankess will get him by the trade deadline if not sooner...
Glavin was 18 and 11 last year.. and he keeps himself in incredible shape and never gets hurt... unlike Maddux that stops pitching after 80 pitches and won't pitch when he is having a bad hair day....

I'm a little annoyed that the Mets have pursued this signing rather than resigning Edgardo Alfonso. Glavine gives some credibility, but Fonzie is the heart of that team. More so than Piazza or Leiter. When he's out of the lineup, the Mets always fall apart. In my opinion, he makes or breaks the Mets.
I agree with an earlier post. I wish they would pursue Colon. I'd trade Alomar and that prospect Heiglen(sp?) for him.
Bad move Mets...a 37 yr old player who's only out for getting his 300 wins, not for the team itself. Suckers.
See Ya!

I haven't been this excited since they signed Mike Torrez.

Wow,I guess all Tommy really cares about is money. Too bad he'll never see the postseason again.

Give Fozzy (one of the few Met homegrown talent) some money and then let Phillips try to work some of his "magic" but better this time, huh?

I am not a Mets fan, but if I was I would be less than overwhmed with this deal. It's true Tom Glavine has been in the upper echelon of pitchers for a decade or so, but he's certainly on the downside of his career and the Mets gave him too much money for too long. He is a pitcher a team should get to put them over the hump, the Mets aren't close enough to the hump for that to matter. He'll get his 16, 17, or 18 wins this year, but 3 or 4 years from now, when he's 40, I'm afraid his production will not be that high. Without a more significant signing, the Mets will be lucky to make the playoffs. Tom Glavine is not the answer.

It's a good move for them, but they're still gonna suck.

Im a big Mets fan, I was really happy when they signed Alomar, Burnitz, and Astacio last year and look how that turned out. If you think about it though a rotation where you have Glavine, Astacio, and Leiter might actually work out. They might do better with Art Howe but I doubt that. They really should have worked on getting younger guys, and resigning Alfonzo.
What do I have to say? This is not a bit!

I love the Mets and while I am happy about Glavine and have been loving this early Xmas gift since Thursday....I am sad for Edgardo. He has been a solid player for the Mets and for them to overlook him is a real slap in the face. I realize we NEED a pitcher, but I guess I just got very attached to Alfonzo!

Ok, they didn't overlook or disrespect Fonzie... he wanted way too much money!
His demands were way out of line with what David Bell and Ventura signed for.
Glavine at least is getting what other big name pitchers are getting.
