I saw it once, and hated it. I'm now watching it again on HBO, and again, I'm just astounded at how horrible a movie it is! I mean, it had its moments, and Jude Law's character was great, but the rest of the film is pure drek! And that ending! Argh!
Of course, that doesn't stop me from watching it and getting more angry at Spielberg for ruining what should have been a good Kubrick film...

So why are you watching it again?
Eh, I get it. I, too, go out of my way to piss myself off sometimes. I watched "Eyes Wide Shut" twice.

We rented it and I left the room. The only character I liked was the bear. That movie sucked.
Thank you Ron and Fez for finally being live in DC again.

I think I'm just a masochist. It's like Todd the drug dealer said in Go about The Family Circus - "I hate it, yet I'm inexplicably drawn to it."

And to think - Haley Joel Osment showed such promise in Sixth Sense. But, he's just gone downhill from there... I so wanted him to die in this movie!

i liked the bear and i thought haley did a fine job. i really felt sorry for him when he was begging his mother not to abandon him. and his stiff movements after being thawed were as good as the apes in 2001. the rest of the movie blew, and jude law was super fruity.

You thought THAT was bad? I just saw "Attack of The Clones" for the first time. I thought it was impossible to make a massively-budgeted film with top-caliber actors that was worse than "The Phantom Menace". Thank you, George Lucas, for proving me wrong.

Oh, don't get me started on Attack of the Crap! That movie blew goats! Sure, it had some good moments, but frankly they didn't offset the horrible nature of the film! For one thing, everytime Anakin Skywalked opened his trap, I wanted to bitchslap him for being such a whiny fuck. I'm sorry - I think we've been lied to all along; no way this dork becomes Vader - possibly the best movie villain of all time.
All I can say is that Lucas has totally lost the touch. We can only hope he turns the writing and directing over to other, more capable people for the third installment.
Oh, wait. I've gone on an off-topic rant! Back to the thread - AI sucks!

I have to admit that I got a little emotional as he lay down next to his mother that one last time.

I'll have to try watching it under the influence then...

About his mother, though - if they could clone humans that only live for one day, why did they have to use up all of the mother's hair on one clone? There must have been a hundred hairs there - they could have cloned a new mother each day!

Argh - the more I think about it, the more I hate this movie!

I just saw this on HBO the other day. I wouldn't say it sucked all the way through, just mostly. The FX were pretty cool, seeing the city almost totally flooded and frozen was sick! Talking Teddy rules, I got to get one.
How can you hate when his love is so real.

Okay, I'll concede that AI had some cool special fx (although the future scenes were pretty lame).
As for Anakin, Deathstroke, he wasn't arrogant. He was petulant. There's a difference - Arrogant is saying "I'm the best there is..." Petulant is whining "But Obi-Wan is holding me baaaaack! Waah! I could be greeeeeat!!! Waaah!" Besides Hayden Christensen (sp?) couldn't deliver lines to save his hide.

AI is certainly a rarity among modern movies; an intelligent, provocative, pscyhodynamic, emotional masterpiece that dares to question our notions of sentience.
The movie is based on the short story, "Supertoys Last All Summer Long" by Brian Aldis a Grand Master of Science Fiction, and winner of every major science fiction award.
The film was brilliant in every way imaginable.

I love "A.I.". It's an elegant mess. It's fascinating to watch two filmmakers who's style couldn't be more different actually come together. No matter what film, I love watch Spielberg's films, because no matter the flaws, you can tell he loves and believes in the art of filmmaking. The ending is flawed, but "A.I." will be hailed for it's scope and beauty in years to come.
And as for whiney Anakin...well, at least we know how Luke ended being so damn annoying. Shouldn't this kid at least try to be menacing?

I have the book, and I liked it. I just don't like the way they translated it into the movie. I think Kubrick was taking it to some good places, but I think that Spielberg's vision didn't mesh well, and as a result, the film just comes off as annoying.

Ditto to that. Only saw Eyes Wide Shut once, though. Never felt the need to seek it out again. It didn't help that I didn't like any of the characters much...

The "sentimental stuff" was the crux of the movie, that brought all the psychodynamics previously discussed to full fruition.
Can you believe that there were some people who thought that the robots at the end were aliens!!! I suppose these people couldn't separate sentience from flesh.

Okay, that's kind of sad. I mean, Spielberg made it pretty obvious that they were robots (all the discussion about how they didn't know real people, how they downloaded HJO's memories, etc.).

As for the ending being the crux of the sentimentality, I just thought it was too over-the-top cheesy. Not to mention that I think the hair Teddy held would have dissolved in the intervening years while HJO was trapped underwater (most likely eaten by hair mites or something).
