View Full Version : Your Favorite Place You Have Visited, And Why?

Years ago, I toured Europe - went to England, France, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium.

I absolutely LOVE mountains and couldn't wait to see Switzerland.

My sister had told me before I went "the country you are looking forward to the least will probably be your favorite". It turned out she was right.

I just kind of looked at France as the country to "go quickly through" because of the language, perceived prejudices against Americans, etc.

I was absolutely blown away by the country's beauty. Paris, I felt, was the most beautiful city I have ever been to. I found the French people very nice, the museums, outdoor cafes were stunning. I would love to go back just to Paris again for about a week.

Where have you gone that you found to be your favorite?

I'm going to Paris on my honeymoon over Christmas holidays.
Could you just walk around or did you take a tour bus? What were the best sights to see?

I've never been there either.

I went to Paris years ago-- one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Unfortunately it's full of Parisiens.

Bamanation: Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. It sounds like it is going to be a beautiful one!

Paris is definitely romantic to the hilt - perfect place to go on a honeymoon.

Some of the places I saw:

Cruised the River Seine (river through Paris) at night and saw the City of Lights.

Eiffel Tower

Notre Dame Cathedral

Hotel de Sens (medieval castle)

Traveled along and saw the French countryside (the champayne vineyards)

All kinds of French shops and fashion houses.

The Louvre Museum (the place where they have world famous sculptures and paintings).

The most famous square in Paris (and supposedly the most famous in the world) is the Camps Elysees, where they have outdoor cafes, historical pieces, etc.

I AM SO JEALOUS OF YOU GUYS!!

Seville, Spain. In college I studied abroad and visited Morocco, Switzerland, Italy, France, Canary Islands, Holland and England. Spain was my favorite, however...Bey, Switzerland is an absolute dream. You can hike up a mountain and be the only person for hundreds of miles!

Spain has the BEST people. They are friendly and all everyone does is eat and drink, what could be a better life style than that. By the end of the night, you know every person in the bar bc they have welcomed you and bought you drinks. The landscape is beautiful. In one weekend I snowboarded and bathed topless. The culture is devine. Life revolves around family and social events. If you have not been there, go to Seville. It wil take your breath away. PS--I am going in April...there is a kick ass festival called Feria...you will hardly remember being there.

i really haven't been many places. i did the Disney thing, but i was really young and got sick at Epcot, so it kind of sucked.

the only real trip i took was to St. Kits a few years ago and the scenary on the flight when we got close was awesome, but once you got into the area and saw how the locals live it wasn't so nice anymore.

so due to default i really like the Adirondacks. family has a summer place up there we all share and i love it. it's on a lake and its really quiet. definitely my favorite week or two during the year.

One of the favorite places I have visited is the rural county of Donegal Ireland. The lush green fields and blue skies and the friendly publicans all combined to create a most memorable trip.
Thank God I have the pictures to prove it.

Sweden. Aside from the castles and ancient Viking ships, the people themselves were the real reason I enjoyed it so immensely. Wherever we went we were treated like celebrities and they were all so fascinated with America .

Everyone went out of their way to speak English and wanted to know everything about us and our way of life.

Oh, and the women ain't so bad either. :)

Disney in Fla. is awsome. I go almost every year and never get tired of it. I went on a cruise on my Honeymoon 5 years ago, one of the places was St.Thomas, when we were pulling into port about 6 in the morning it was one of the most beautiful sights I ever saw. All the houses, mountains and trees were covered with a light fog, while the sun was peeking through. It was so peaceful and quiet,I never forgot how beautiful that was.Of course some people will argue that staten island is the most beautiful place in the world.(if you like DUMPS)

Alright I don't wanna get off on a Pro-France tangent here, the Frogs are perhaps the nastiest, unfriendliest people on the face of the Earth, but if you've never been to Paris, you absolutely must. One of, if not the, greatest sights I have ever seen is the Eiffel Tower at night. I don't mean just looking at it, but seeing it from the steps of the nearest Metro station to it, Trocadero I believe is the name, is absolutely breathtaking. As you walk up the steps, it rises in front of you, completely illuminated and you realise exactly how gorgeous a structure it is. Amazing.

Id have to say.....Massachuesetts, we were mainly in Boston and it was around Thanksgiving, it was just the right amount of cold with snow all around. All the shops were lit up and being set up with X-mas decorations and you could smell the food being cooked for Thanksgiving. It was awesome mainly for me b/c i love the Winter season, and you dont get many like we had that one year. It was a great combination

I lived in Paris. About three, four blocks from the Eiffel Tower. And it's easily the filthiest city I've ever been to. Literally. I don't know if there's too much coal soot left on the buildings, but you walk around for a few hours in that city, you can just feel the dirt all over you, like you're Pigpen or something. Just watch if you a take a shower after a busy day of sightseeing if you vist: you'll see all the dirt washing off of you.

My dad grew up there. The entire city is a historic landmark.

Honorable Mention:

Machu Pitchu, Peru
The isolated "lost city" -Inca retreat went undiscovered for hundreds of years in the Andes Mountains.

Lake Nakuru, Kenya
1,000,000 pink flamingoes can't be wrong. You fly over the lake and it's totally pink and then you walk up there and it's like you're in another world.

Yosemite, CA

I've been to Paris this summer, and it smelled like piss and other disgusting things.
The city did had this 'romantic' atmosphere, but for me the sight of all the homeless people there was just depressing.

For me the city Maastricht (in the south-east of Holland) was the nicest place I've been to. Great food, nice people. Can't wait to go there again.

It's interesting you mention Spain because I have heard so many people who have said they loved it when they went there.

I have an uncle who worked for an airline in New York and who traveled all over the world most of his life. (What a job, ha?) He absolutely loved Spain and eventually retired there.

The Beach Club in Ft Lauredale, which has since been torn down...

when I was 15 I met 4 girls from Ohio... I would go to their room when they had parties, they would ask me to go to the beach with them(in front of my parents and grandparents), i went on a boat trip with them... I actually bought a case of beer and a bottle of champagne and brought it to the party...
on the last night, while these two older men were flirting with one of them, I got in-between them and took her into the adjoining room...
turns out nothing happened, I kissed her a bit, went in the bathroom and hurled from drinking so much, came out and got back in bed with her and passed out. I got up around 1am and went back to my room. The girls got into an argument the next day and split...
Man I had a Great time even if i didn't complete the deed...
:)

they loved my jokes and NJ accent, unlike most people on the board :)
