Menstrual Art

Ok, I'm a very open minded person in all aspects of life but today browsing around I found a page dedicated to "Menstrual Art..." http://spiralingmoon.livejournal.com/

This chick, takes her menstrual blood and makes paintings out of them to, as she puts it:

I publish the works not to persuade or convince viewers to like them, but to make a political statement about non-traumatic blood, which the media excludes. Politically, the menstrual paintings can be thought of in contrast to violent bloodshed delivered in daily doses in the media. Although blood is blood, the blood of the menstrual cycle is different in that it is natural and unrelated to disease or dominance -- weapons, torture, trauma and crime. Yet, it is hidden and not supposed to be seen.


Am I the only one that thinks that this person should be taken to Switherland and studied around the clock by a team of psychiatrists through a small window???

I actually think its pretty cool. art is supposed to come from your soul. this is just another manifestation of it. But its not axs oringinal as this woman thinks. I've seen menstrual paintings before.

Now I have seen everything. I once saw a woman painting with her hair, a man paint his penis and now this. I think it is gross and interesting at the same time.. I guess you can say this type of art really comes from within.

I like how, in her manifesto, the woman discusses how she wanted to make menstrual art to show the world blood that isn't normally seen. Um, lady, what blood IS normally seen? It's not like everyone goes around painting with non-menstrual blood and no one ever let poor menstrual blood join in any blood-painting games until one foggy Christmas Eve...oh, damn. Lapsed into a Christmas carol again.
