Spicy Octopus roll is taste, as is Eel.

I go for the spicy tuna, yellowtail or oshrinko. The last is a pickled vegetable, if you don't care for the others with the bait in them.

Last night 7 friends and I went to an all you can eat sushi place and it was fucking amazing. Although I didn't really eat, I tried several new kinds of sushi and I have a few new favorites. Some of my old favs are spicy tuna and philly rolls, but I now also enjoy Randy rolls and Paradise Island rolls. <P>
I'm gonna have to go with Cucumber rolls, Kani and sweet shrimp. Mmmmm tasty!

HK, I don't know if you've
ever actually had fugu, but I
find it to be utterly bland and
disappointing!! Similar to
fluke/flounder. And when
you know how unlikely it is
that you will die from eating
it, it's even less exciting!!
Definitely not worth the price
to me. There are fugu
restaurants in japan where
the entire meal is based on
fugu - they are outrageously
expensive!!!! (as is
everything else)
When you say what is your
favorite kind of sushi, do
you mean makizushi or
nigirizushi?
I prefer the nigiri variety!!
Within that, my favorite by far
is o- oro (the fatty fatty tuna)
- chu-toro is good too, but
not quite as fatty.
I also enjoy a really good
hamachi.
But really, when it comes to
sushi, it really depends on
the fish that they happen to
have at the time. I'm not a
big salmon fan (too greasy),
but I'll take a good salmon
over a mediocre tuna any
day!!
I also like tekkamaki (tuna
in the wrapped style)
because I think tuna has a
good flavor. Otherwise I
don't see much point in
getting a maki, because you
can't appreciate the texture
of the fish, and that's half of
the point of eating sushi!!!
I'm not really a fan of any
"rolls" - they're good, but as
long as its a good sushi
place, I figure I might as
well be eating something
where I can appreciate the
fish fully!
The BEST sushi I ever have
is when I go fishing - I don't
like to keep the fish I catch,
but if I go with my father, he
will keep them. We keep a
bottle of soy sauce on
board so that we can filet
the fish and eat it as
sashimi right on the boat -
striped bass is great, but
surprisingly, a fresh caught
bluefish makes
PHENOMENAL sashimi.
But it must be JUST caught
- even a few hours later it is
already too fishy!!!!

California Rolls (is
that the one w/ the Orange
exterior?)
Pretty much any of the wide
variety of americanized
rolls, of which California is
one, can be made with an
orange exterior (comes
from rolling it in smelt roe).
They can also come inside
out (often rolled in sesame
seeds) or just regular, with
the nori on the outside.
California rolls have
avocado, cucmber, and
pressed pollock (called
"crab", but it resembles
crab in appearance only,
and vaguely at that) in them.
They are pretty standard.
You can find almost
anything in a roll, and they
can be named almost
anything - for example, my
local sushi place names
them after regular
customers.
as an aside, I know people
love them, but personally I
never understood why
anyone would ruin yummy
tuna by mixing it with
tabasco sauce and
mayonnaise!!

I like Sushi a lot, but I'm not hip with all the names and everything. I like the rolls, the one's with avocado are nice, but I like when all you get is the raw fish on top of the little rice log. Mmmmm, some wasabi on that and it's the deliciousest. I also like jusy the fish by itself. I don't know which ones I like, but I do know that I don't like mackerel. Beyond that, it's pretty much fair game.

blackjeezis -
the little rice log with fish (or
other stuff) on top is
"nigirizushi" - 'nigiru' is like
the motion they make when
they smoosh the rice
together
the rolls - fish, rice,
seaweed - are makizushi.
"maki" means 'rolled'
you can also get a te-maki
which is those cone
shaped rolls - 'te' means
hand, so a te-maki is a
hand roll.
the little slices of just fish
are called sashimi.
Mackerel (saba) can be
really really good, but
generally it tends to be very
oily and fishy - similar to
bluefish, in that sense.
btw if you ever make sushi
at home and didn't know
this already - never ever
make it with a freshwater
fish (like trout, tilapia, etc)
unless the fish was forzen
once (in which case why
would you make it into
sushi) because they can
have parasites!!
