Who Are "They"?

My father is notorious for saying, "Well, that's what THEY say."

It goes like this:

"Hey Pops, why did the US really bomb Japan at the end of WWII?"

Well Son, THEY say that we needed to end the war quickly, so that's why."

Do you know anybody that bases all of their research on what "they" say?

And who is this band of know-it-alls that can answer all of life's meaningless questions...and I am not talking about Horde King either!
