I've heard old wives' tales about this movie.. one about a song that you listen to throughout the entire film .. and the other is about seeing someone who had hung themselves during the making of the movie..
Can anyone clarify this for me??

'..You think you can handle this Kadoonk Kadoonk-doonk?..'

Not too sure about the hanging except that it hurts. The song thing is if at the second or third lion roar (on the MGM logo) you start up Dark Side of the Moon from Pink Floyd and the album goes along with the movie. I remember the one thing in the movie about the clocks and it coincides with the song Time from the album.

It is all folklore. In the late 80's when the Laser Disc was released most of the "rumors" were clearly disproved.

I can't link to the exact page on Snopes.com but you can click on Movies & follow from there to get the story.

Summary: No on the midget hanging and maybe on the Pink Floyd connection

Found this on the snopes.com site:

The Wizard of Oz
FALSE: A munchkin's on-set suicide was captured on film.
TRUE: Buddy Ebsen was slated to play the Tin Woodman but had to be replaced when the makeup made him ill.
TRUE: A second-hand coat purchased for Professor Marvel's costume was later discovered to have been owned by L. Frank Baum.
INDEFINITE ORIGIN: A number of eerie coincidences can be found when Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" album is synched with The Wizard of Oz.

A Pink Floyd album and The Wizard Of Oz sync up? Which Pink Floyd album is it?

i think if you start "dark side of the moon" with the 2nd lion of the mgm roar, the two sync up. i haven't done it in years, so i'm not sure about which roar; its either the 2nd or 3rd.

I've done it with The Wizard of OZ, and although Pink Floyd won't own up to it, it's pretty freaky and definitely there. Adding drugs while watching only makes it better.

Another interesting fact: Frank Baum's book was not originally written as a children's book, but a scathing Swiftian satire and rail against the US and William Jennings Bryan and the debate at the time as to whether to peg the dollar against Silver or Gold (The Gold Standard). The Scarecrow represented the Agricultural Lobby, The Tin Man represented Industry/Factories, The Cowardly Lion was Congress and The Wizard the President.

The Yellow Brick Road was a reference to the "Gold" in the "Gold Standard."

Toto represented a really really bad 80's soft rock group.
