Nothing against Nickelback or Stone Sour beside the fact that I don't like them but the fact that they are all over the radio and on Roadrunner just leaves me with a weird sickly feeling. This is the label along with Combat, Metal Blade, Earache and Megaforce that I associated with the best power, thrash, speed and death metal. If there would have been the push behind Obituary, Sepultura or King Diamond even there could have been some serious shit going down in the late 80's/early 90's. I know alot of it has to do with the backing of a major label but still. All I see is Nickelback on the Roadrunner website next to the classic Obituary picture of them hanging from a tree. Classic! I think of all the old Roadrunner bands. Exhorder had Panteras sound before Pantera. That was some angry harsh shit. As Metallica was going down the toilet, British melodic thrash Kings Xentrix were releasing one of the most unrecognized albums of the decode. I could really go on forever here but I want to share other Roadrunner, R/C and Roadracer records memories with others. I am kind of glad in a way that some of the labels folded and didn't sell out to the green. Not sure how many old school metalheads are along for the ride here but I wanted to throw this out to see who bit.

I feel your pain.

My favorite Roadrunner band is/was Gruntruck. Their album Push from 1992 is seminal and had great cover art. And they are/were great live. If you don't have that album - GET IT.

I was a huge Type O Negative and Life of Agony fan back in the day. I had to laugh when Biohazzard went down the toilet after they signed with Warner Bros.

Sasme here. They completly turned their backs on the NYHC and then flopped and are trying to get their credibility back now. I just lost respect for them. Apparently LOA got back together and are doing some shows. On another NYHC note, MADBALL had gotten back together and are doing a show at Krome in South Amboy in December sometime. YAY!

Roadrunner SUCKS. They have been dropping their heavy shit little by little. I will admit that there is a much smaller audience for it, but there IS a FEIRCLY LOYAL audience for it.

So I wouldn't Piss in Stonesour's mouth if their teeth were on fire. FUCK ROADRUNNER ARTISTS. I have no use for them.

Isn't Roadrunner now owned by Def Jam? Hah. I always wished Type O Negative had left that sinking ship long ago. They'd sound so much if they were a little more mainstream-friendly(October Rust was my favorite album, whatever).

Madball

I was under the impression that Madball broke up, although Fluffernutter tells me otherwise. I'm so out of the f'n loop.

As for Road Runner achieving popularity for it's bands, the only one on their label i would currently allow to carry a bag of my shit five feet is slipknot.

What everyone has to remember is that the days of small labels getting a band onto the national airwaves are pretty much over. I can't tell you how many of my favorites are now on major labels, but heres a few notable ones.

Hatebreed signed with Universal for the release of Perseverance, AFI recently signed with Dreamworks for the 2003 release "Sing the Sorrow" and even Vision of Disorder went from Roadrunner to Go Kart and now on to TVT. It's nice to see local guys like Hatebreed and VOD make it to an extent but the shows I go to know are a far cry from 96 when VOD's Imprint came out.

This is from Roadrunner Records Website

New York hardcore heavyweights MADBALL have reunited and will perform their first comeback show at Krome in South Amboy, New Jersey on Friday, December 6th. Also appearing on the bill will be MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD, DEATH THREAT, and NO WARNING. Tickets go on sale on Friday, October 11th via Ticketmaster. Additional dates will be announced soon.

A tad bit outdated and when i went to madballs former website www.madballnyc.com it was now porno. Oh well. Last I heard Madball is doing more shows including one in Philly which I may go to.
Anywho, as far as major labels go, I don't mind them if there is no compromise from the band or label interjection. The bottom line is the music. The new Hatebreed just killed me when I heard it. So so good. There have been a few others who have had that major label disaster and the compromise. Like H2O lost a bit with "Go" and the afformentioned Biohazard totally shit on the whole NYHC scene when they had their WB signage. I remember the Sick Of It All song they wrote about that. Now Bio is trying to get back into it. SOIA is another band that had a few major label releases and are now back on FAT. Same with bad Religion back on Epitaph. Their Atlantic releases were a bit weak though.
