Got talking with DC reed about this this evening and wanted too see what embarrassing piece of music started off your music collection, casual or serious sickness style. I would be the latter as I have sickness and buy way too much music.
My first ever record was a copy of KISS - Rock and Roll Over. After my psycho mother made me get rid of all my KISS and Village People records because I was dreaming about fire and she thought they were satanic, I resurfaced soon there after with Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime as my first CD. Motley Crue - Girls, Girls, Girls was my first tape and I am smacking myself for that as I speak. AYE!

Beastie Boys, "License To Ill". I was seven, and begged my mom for it. Luckily, this was mere months before the PMRC slapped the parental warning labels on everything. Go me.

First record was Thriller. Listened to it nonstop.

First CD was 5150 by Van Halen. God I was the biggest Van Halen dork. And this was 4 years after the album stopped being cool.

I had many albums my parents bought me, and a SMURF radio I listened to a lot. Weird Al was an early love of mine.

But I'll NEVER forget the 1st tape I bought MYSELF through Colubia House. It was

"SEX PACKETS" by Digital Underground!

and Foreigner.

Same day on cassette.
I was 10.

Speaking of 10.

L.L. Cool J recently had to change the title of his album "X" to "Ten" because people were asking for his album "X". I wonder if Pearl Jam fans would have been as confused if their first album was named X.

So in this day and age, I would imagine they would have called my first album purchase Chicago Eleven.

WOW! I love Chicago. What a great album too with baby, What A Big Surprise on it. Also, the guy who Jimi Hendrix called one of the greatest guitarists, Terry hath's final album before his death.

If you *really* wanna go way back to my first record, it was "Alvin & The Chipmunks' Greatest Hits". No joke. ::whistling "There's no rock and roll on Mars":: hehe.

The first piece of music ever bought for me was a 45 of Muskrat Love by Captain & Tenille...how's that for musical skeleton's in the closet? But, in my own defense, I was about 4 years old.

The first tape I ever owned by choice was Quiet Riot's Metal Health (OK, not much better). It was a present for a good report card in third grade.

My first CDs (got two at the same time) were Van Halen's 5150 & The Who's Greatest Hits...sadly, though, this was in 1993 when I finally got a CD player. These would be the last CDs I would get for quite a while, because the CD player was stolen out of my Seton Hall dorm room while I was next door playing NHL Hockey for hours on end.

...silent, but violent.

Wow, The Chairman feels a little old. Back of album is picture of show at Irving Plaza in NYC (they opened for Bad Religion). Two former college roommates and the Chairman are clearly visible. My first album cover! (well, back cover.)

I thought we were talking first record where we thought, "damn, I NEED that record right now!" I was GIVEN plenty of records as a child that I just accepted at face vaule. Very first was some kind of Muppets sing-a-long.
