Seriously, latley I cant get enough of them. I pretty much hear them everyday on the radio, but not until recently have a really enjoyed listening to them. So far my favorite song is Give me Shelter. I think Im going to ask for the 40 licks CD for Xmas.

I was a late-comer to the stones too. First disc I got was <a href="http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=SEARCH&sql=A5wfqoatabijn" target="_blank">Hot Rocks, 1964-1971</a>. After that I was hooked.

It was a joke goddammit!

Well at least you're into the Stones. My take of them now (Unbelievable that Mick and especially Keith are in their 40th year making music!) is that they're not getting better with age in the sense that their music is better, but I like them better now, particularly in light of the fact that most music just totally sucks these days.
They have aged well. The wine that went into a Chateau Petrus bottle in 1971 was phenomenal. But drinking it NOW... it's better.

To me, there remains no holier trinity in rock and roll than Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile.

Definitely pick up Hot Rocks and go from there. Sticky Fingers, Let it Bleed, Exile on Main Street, Some Girls, Tattoo you, are all great albums.

If you like covers of old rock and roll pick up the stones first album. 40 licks is ok if you want a sampling of all of there music. Hot Rocks is better. See if you can pick it up at a used record shop.

My brother got me into the stones back in 78, and I have been listening ever since.

Thank you Ron and Fez for finally being live in DC again.
Philly is the next market for the boys. Wake up WYSP...

I've been a Stones fanatic since the release of "Some Girls" in 1978, and they still blow me away after all these years.

How one band could cover such a broad base of musical genres and do it so well mystifies me. They've run the gamut from country, blues, soul, funk, R&B, to good old straight up rock and roll and do it better than anyone else.

Obviously their best years are behind them, but I love the fact that they're still out there doing it after all these years.

There never has been, and never will be, another band quite like them. God bless The Rolling Stones!

GVAC! I notice we both left out dabblings with disco (i.e. "Miss You")...was this intentional??? But I broke my Stones cherry on Some Girls too...caught up with the rest later (I was only eleven after all and didn't have older sibs).

Beast of Burden, Shattered, Waiting on a Friend...Keith's Before They Make Me Run is worth the price of the album alone...

And for a most excellent cover of Before They Make Me Run, check out Steve Earle's cover with the Supersuckers. Better than bangers and mash after a night swilling pints of room temperature English ale...

40 Licks is a good start. I'm partial to "Aftermath" and the Jimmy Miller-era Stones: "Beggar's Banquet", "Let It Bleed" "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out", "Sticky Fingers", and "Exile On Main Street". You may also want to consider "The London Years" box set. It covers all the great Stones singles from 1964-1971.
