For the basic crap i do, I love my PC
but for video editting i have found MACs to be easier. eventually though I will find a good program to use for Windows XP so i will not have to buy a MAC

I should be the mac daddy.

I use a mac at work for graphics...and I have to tell you, if you have lots of shit plugged into your mac (ie. Scanners, tablets, printers) it will crash A LOT!

my trusty old Dell Pc at home is reliable and has lots of stuff plugged into and performs very well.
But it is boring and grey.

I have to make a living by being able to communicate with Mac's, PC's, Unix and Linux boxes.

Mac OS X does this out of the box.

FMJeff I would also like to say that this site works perfectly in ALL regards with OSX just so long as you are NOT using Microsoft Internet Explorer. Mozilla, Netscape, Opera iCab and Chimera browsers all work better.

All right, here we go:

1: It used to be Video Editors used Macs because they were better, anyone who still believes that is antiquated and wrong. Hardware and Software(Premiere) in PCs has risen to a point that places them on level with Macs.

2: Most software as well as websites are designed to be used with MS products first and Mac/Netscape products second. Beyond the lag in production, quite often features are left out that do not work on Macs.

3. Games SUCK on Macs. Unless you're into Mavis Beacon.

4. Any finesse advantage the RISC processor once had over Intel hardware has been negated by the raw speed of the new Intel chips.

5. Call it what you will, the G4 is a disgustingly sloppy looking machine. And that cube, yeah, cute, if you enjoy being spoon fed by an orderly and have to wear a helmet when you walk.

And by the way, Steve Jobs did NOT invent the GUI or the mouse, they were created at Xerox in the 1970's. Look it up, Xerox's Star system was out two years before Apple's Lisa, and GUIs had been experimented with in mainframe computers before that, ever hear of Amiga?

God Mac people piss me off.
Go stare at your pretty colored Mac and install another cute font.

the best attribute of pc's is the ability to build and customize your own. with macs, its almost like buying a model t. then you have to buy THEIR stuff to run it. apple's as much of a monopoly as ms.

Yes Steve Jobs visited Palo Alto and copied the idea.

So needless to say when Bill Gates visited Apple he copied their ideas and it became Windows.

20 years on Windows finally has some of the features that Mac users have taken for granted for the last 10.

For the record I am an MCSE for XP and W2k and I use both platforms daily. I just have a Mac Portable and Macs at home because they are more reliable.

You are absolutely correct Video editing can be achieved on either platform. As a user of Adobe Premiere since before it was officially released I have the greatest respect for the product. However Final Cut Pro leaves it looking stupid. <P>

I have to deal with mostly PCs where I work, but we have a few users that have Macs, mostly editors and graphic designers.

What irritates me the most about Macs is their poor handling of network problems. When I get a user calling with a frozen machine, 9 times out of 10 it's either some kind of print job jammed in a network queue or the Mac trying to connect to an unavailable system resource. We don't run OS X yet, so I don't know if they finally fixed this (basing it on a #nix kernel is a good idea, since it's built on networking), but in OS 9.2 it still is a problem.

You can boot that machine 5 times in a row and it will freeze until you somehow clear the print job or make that network drive available.

While I'm no M$ lover, the "off the shelf" design of PC's makes them much more amenable to upgrades and such.

Worst Mac commercial? The chick who talks about the digital camera and Windows drivers. It's so untrue I laugh everytime I hear her claim "I saved Christmas".

It should only require you to reboot holding down the shift key, (turning extensions off) then navigate to System Folder:Printmonitor Documents:YourprintersSpoolfolder to delete the problem job. Reboot. <P>
The problem you recite is VERY rare and I have only seen it a dozen times in 20 years. <P>
It strongly indicates a network, rather than Mac problem as you correctly suggest. Diffcult to help further without more knowledge of your network specifics. <P>
You know where I am if you need more help. <P>

The Switch ad I hate is the one where the guy says He converted all his business machines to Mac's and his competition went out of buisness.. making it seem like because his competition stayed with PC's is the reason why he is the only one standing..

The girl who saved X-mas pisses me off too.. If the camera is new it would have a driver disc.. unless the cheap F bought the Camera used off E-bay..
------------------------------
The funny thing since Apple has run these ad's they have lost money over last year's numbers. Doesn't mean it is the commericals it could be anything but it's a funny coinendence..

Of course YO YO MA is a better Cello player because he uses a MAC now..

The problem you recite is VERY rare and I have only seen it a dozen times in 20 years.I've seen it 5 times in the past two weeks.

I know about the extensions off way of fixing it. It was just that the first time that it happened (before we knew what was causing it) we tried various things to get the machine up and running. Thank God we found out what it was before getting into a major re-installation of stuff.

Other problems that we have with Macs usually involve boards dying within 2 months of purchase of a machine. Sure, this is rare, but it seems odd that of the 3 Macs we've ordered in the past year, one fried its video card within a month, and another fried its system board and video card in one shot after about 2 months.

I'm still sticking to PCs...

I'm a computer technician and have worked with both so I'm gonna be a geek and throw some technical stuff around and I hope nobody minds.
Macs are stable, they use a small operating system that isn't a memory hog like any version of Windows. As far as hardware goes, when the PC was designed the architecture was licensed out to other companies so they could all make whatever parts they wanted to make. Apple didn't do that and that's why the only place you can get a Mac is from Apple. But PC's have literally hundreds of vendors or you can just buy parts and build it yourself.
Macs are a more stable machine but because the hardware architecture designs were never licensed out, no one else was able to design their own Mac. The Mac OS is amazingly stable compared to Windows, but as it happened the market got saturated with Windows products so no other PC OS ever really got off the ground.
Since PC's broke the 2GHz barrier, the Macs simply can't keep up anymore, especially with Windows XP, while still a memory hog, it's pretty good.
Incidentally, someone else mentioned it before... Bill Gates stole the design for Windows from Steve Jobs' design for the Mac OS, but Steve Jobs stole it from Xerox's Alto OS in the late 70's.

Okay, I'm gonna bail out now that everyone thinks I'm some sorta turbonerd. I'm really a cool guy who doesn't wear big thick glasses with tape in the middle and I have plenty of time for women and tequila. I swear.
