Brother Joe at Bar Nine = Good. The wings = No Good.
Anyway, while I was listening them sing Ice Cream Man by Van Halen, I got to thinking, what bands were not cursed by the dreaded "sophomore jinx"? Clearly we can think of myriad one hit wonder bands that had one huge selling album (n.b. not necessarily good album). Ex. The Knack, Modern English, The Romantics, Hootie and the Blowfish, Spin Doctors, etc., etc.)
But what about bands who had a phenomenal debut album and then rocked out with an album just as good, if not better as opposed to it being a major let down?
Some examples I can think of:
Van Halen and Van Halen II
Led Zeppelin and Led Zeppelin II
Black Crowes first and second albums
Pearl Jam Ten and Vs.
Radiohead's first two (thanks Jersey Rich)
Pavement's first two
Beck's first two
Jimmy Eat World's first two
DMX's first two
Wilco's first two
Eminem's first two
What are your top one-two punches and top sophomore jinx's?
